The year is now 2003. We’re right in the Age of Crunk here, but outside of the top spot there are quite a few surprises. There are 31 songs in this list.
Pretty good year for Top 40. Could’ve voted for a good half dozen of them. Almost voted for Missy’s “Work It,” but went with Timberlake’s “Cry Me A River.”
I didn’t have to go past the first song to vote here. R. Kelly may be a scumbag, but “Ignition (Remix)” is one of my quintessential early 2000s pop songs.
I never thought this day would come, but I had to vote for the Black Eyed Peas here. It’s a good song and it shows off what they were capable of before Fergie joined and they turned into just another crunk band.
Very good year, my time In high school. I voted for Santana and Michelle Branch with Dixie Chicks close behind.
Few others were Matchbox 20, Avril Lavigne, Wayne Wonder, and 50 Cent.
Surprised “Don’t Know Why?” By Norah Jones has not shown up either in 2002 and 2003. Big hit but must have not ranked high.
Another vote for the Dixie Chicks’ take on “Landslide” here. I honestly had never heard it until just a few minutes ago, and I’ll be darned if it didn’t blow me away. By far the Chicks’ best song…and if my vote had not gone to that, then it would have been for Evanescence’s “Bring Me To Life”.
I voted for Avril Lavigne’s “I’m with You” in a tight contest against “The Game of Love.” It was also tempting to vote for Lil Jon even though I’ve hardly ever heard that song. I don’t recognize over 50% of these songs. (It was a pretty low point in pop music history.)
“Bring Me to Life” finishes in dead-ass last, and I’m once again baffled by the results of this poll.
