I'm too busy--and frankly, too embarrassed--to see a dermatologist about this, but I have rather large pores on my nose and I'm wondering what I can do to minimize them.

A friend told me to use an alcohol-based cosmetic. I did, and it temporarily shrank the pores, but the results were not that impressive.

I'm wondering if something like dermabrasion or a chemical peel would work. (I could make time for an effective remedy.) Or, is this something that cannot be effectively treated and something I will be stuck with for life?

Thanks in advance.

Possibly TMI coming up!

I have the same horrible affliction. Aside from wearing a paper bag on my head, I don't think anything can be done about it. Even a rhinoplasty will not do anything to affect the type of skin we have on our noses.

Luckily, this does not affect my overall adonis-like beauty. The main problem is with keeping those pores clean. The astringent method works OK I guess, but I've heard people say that depeating your skin of oils just sends it into oil production overdrive. I spend a few minutes in front of the mirror at night prodding & squeezing my nose in an attempt to coax out any dirt deposits that are just waiting to become blocked pores (and eventually pimples). I always go to bed looking like a well-known reindeer

Biore deep-pore cleaning stuff does work and it only takes, literaly, 20 seconds. I keep mine on the sink and use it while the mirror is de-fogging.

Ok,

I went to the dermotologist with such an affliction just 6 months ago. He said they where named pomarange, a French word I just butchered the spelling on, which means skin of an orange. He said it was from sun damage, and there was little he could do about it. He also pointed out some other sun-related damage on my face. He wanted to know if my grandfather's death from skin cancer had any kind of effing effect on me. Ok, he didn't ask that, but I could just tell he was thinking it.

I recommend Minwax Wood Putty. I use "Natural Pine," but "Golden Oak" or "Mahogany" might be better suited to darker skin tones.

I use witch hazel, and get ok results. It keeps the dirt out and makes the pores somewhat smaller.

Laser resurfacing.

Maybe dermabrasion.

Large pores on my nose: any effective treatment?

I know a "friend" with this affliction also. I'm afraid that once a pore is enlarged, there is nothing you can do to permanently shrink that pore. The best you can do is keep your skin clean, use those Biore (or equivalent) nose strips regularly, and use some noncomedogenic makeup to cover the damage. I use bare essenctuals mineral foundation and it really seems to cover the problem without obviously looking like a cover up. If you're a man, I guess you might not want to wear any makeup. However, I could be wrong. I will take this opportunity to nag everyone to use sunblock generously. I'm happy to say that after getting serious about sun protection, my skin is looking a lot better. Good Luck.

Actually, the pores are nowhere close to being huge, just larger than I would prefer, maybe 20 in all. I've seen much bigger on other folks. I would like a more refined appearance.

Have you tried putting benzoyl peroxide cream (or lotion) 5 (or 10%) on your nose every night? I think it actually works. (And its relatively cheap, safe, invisible, and available without a prescription.)

Sorry, nothing you can do about the size of your pores. The biggest thing is that dirt and oil can clog it, making it appear bigger, exfoliation, either by mechanical (scrubs) or chemical (lotions or peels) is the only way to treat this, but it will not shrink the pore, it will only clean it up and make it less pronounced.
