Ask Someone Who Works In An Emergency Room!

3…2…1…

Is there some sort of point system you use to determine who gets seen in what order? Obviously, the trauma cases go first, but how do the rest get ordered? In the case of, say, a guy with a broken ankle who’s been sitting for 3 hours vs. someone who just walked in with a bleeding head wound, who goes first? Or is it just that anyone that’s injured/sick but stable mostly go in order? On my (far too many) trips to the ER I’ve always wondered how it works!

If you (the OP) were in need of visiting an emergency room in a strange city, what might you do to minimize your wait time?

Do you ever actually “crack a chest” in the ER like they do on TV every week?
