"He's tachy at 150...saline wide open!"

Damn ER lingo’s stuck in my head!

I know they have consultants and all, but do all those emergency room directions make real sense?

Slate has had a couple of emergency room doctors write about their lives, most of them have felt compelled to talk about ER.

What they seem to agree on is that while the language is correc they never talk that much that fast because somebody would screw up.

yes it does, and sometimes the docs even talk that fast IRL at least that is what my expereince has been.

For the most part they are correct (it still irritates the hell out of me when they shock asystole “flatline”).

Yeah, just like anyone under stress we (medical professionals) speak really fast and get all excited.

Even at the animal ER, things are like that when we have a critial, unstable patient. The vets use all kinds of “lingo” and we nurses have to move FAST.

If I don’t get back to work soon, all I’ll hear is, “You’re fired.”

Dammit! We’re losing him. I need 500 cc of salted snack foods STAT! Is the martini blender charged?
