The First Annual Mike Tomlin Marches the Steelers to the Super Bowl Thread

We’ll see. Good luck to the Steelers–may they get good seats to watch Bears/Patriots in XLII!

Is there another kind?

I forgot that you started doing these threads in 2002. Where does the time go?

You spelled Ravens wrong.

Tell me about it.

Tonight’s recap: I’m not sure what the defense ate before the game, but they gave up 3rd down conversions like pedophiles pass out candy. I could have gotten a first down tonight. Cumberland College could have gotten a first down tonight. For all I know, Bob’s Auto Repair and MBAs could have gotten a first down tonight.

Other than that, I have to say that Charlie Batch is indubitably the best backup quarterback in the league, bar none. For what that’s worth. And will the real Deshea Townshend please stand up? He gets burned with alarming regularity for years and now he’s friggin’ Superman? Dr. Jekyll isn’t as multiple personality as Deshea.

A couple more weeks until it counts. I can’t wait.

Not enough offense. The Pats have the total package AND Tom Brady. Plus, I heard Tim Donaghy has good money on those guys.

What?

Actually, I think the Pats have the team to beat in the AFC this year, but I think we can do it, but if I tell you why nobody, and I mean nobody, will ever take me seriously as a football prognosticator again.

I disagree with the Bar none portion. If Big Ben goes down Batch can fill in with little production loss. When he was run out of Detriot I was glad to see him land with the steelers. He also has an advantage of being in SteelerLand for a few years. He also has a history of producing on the field in live games.
I believe a back up should have three things 1)Ability, 2)Time in system. just as important time with the team. Offensive systems change as coaches change, experience gained with the same recievers from a different offense is critical when it comes to learning a new system, and 3)Game experience.

Batch meets those requirements.

So does wait for it… Kurt Warner.

Now, You have to remember also the Steelers have to have an opponent in the Super Bowl. I give you Du Du DUM! Pittsburg South!
Whisenhunt is in town and going to do good things for the offense which, has some of the best players in the skill positions. Fitz and Boldin are solid 1 and 2 recievers and Johnson is a damn fine 3rd reciever. The edge in the backfield running the ball is a damn nice thing too! Lienert is going to be a damn fine QB. He has as much talent as Big Ben, and Whisenhunt knows how to get production out of a young QB.
Arizona’s O-line is going to be better. Grimm will see to that. The only week link is the Rookie Brown, making rookie mistakes.
Arizona has multiple pro bowl players on special teams, and a new coach there to get things moving in the right direction.
The Weak link is going to be lack of QB pressure and the Cornerbacks getting exposed because of such.
Arizona has a weak schedule and is going to rampage thru some very close games to get into the playoffs with a break or two in our direction Deep into the playoffs and Super Bowl!

I would love to see Pittsburg (Original) and Pittsburg (south) battle it out.

Via Pittsburg south!
See ya in the post season!

Just a side story about some of our players.

I was in my hometown a few weeks ago and went to an old haunt for nostalgia’s sake. I met a woman there from Pittsburgh. Her husband owned a hottub/spa place and had been out to Big Ben’s place a few times to install stuff to help him recover from the accident. She said he was a very genuine young man, very kind.

She also said she was behind Troy Polamalu (and his wife) in the grocery line. She said that he too was a soft-spoken gentleman who seemed genuinely glad to meet his fans.

In this day of bad-boys in sports it is nice to hear that there are a few gentleman on the field.

Ah, c’mon…let’s hear it. Believe me, you’ve got nothing to lose.

That is no joke. We don’t take you seriously anyway.

Well, it took a while, but the Steelers finally broke through. They’ve been marching down the field regularly, they just couldn’t finish. On the other hand, the Eagles haven’t been looking good at all on offense.

7-3 Steelers. They need to figure out how to put more points up sooner, but they look pretty good overall.

And so the Steelers get a good victory over the Eagles. They looked pretty good, the poor decision by Ben and the fumblitis from Willie notwithstanding.

One more preseason game on Thursday where the starters won’t see much action and then it starts for real. Pittsburgh opens with the Browns on the 9th. That day cannot come soon enough.

Got a one-up story on Troy Polamalu…

My son works at the local Italian restaurant, which has a good reputation, so people come from all over to eat here. The owner will treat VIPs accordingly.

Earlier this year my son answered the phone and took a reservation order- from Troy Polamalu. He set up a private dinner, which the owner served personally. My son wasn’t there; but he was around when Troy called back thanking the owner for the great dinner. So, he got to speak on the phone with him twice.

I’m sure he’ll be back; next time I’ll get an autograph for Dave; I’m sure he’ll treasure it.

There is a chance I’ll get tickets to one or 2 late season games this year; scheduling problems with my friends locally may mean I’ll be looking for someone else to pick up 2 tickets out of the 4 I’ll get. They’re on ground level, 27 rows up or so on the sideline in the open end zone.

my 2c:

Woodley is turning out to be a great draft pick, watch out, size and speed. Steelers D lookin tough.

It was nice to see Nate Washington hold on to the ball last night. He can be a heck of a weapon on O

May I be the first to say that there’s no such thing as a “First Annual” anything. It’s only “annual” the second time around.
Carry on, and go Bears.

I know that. I’m naming it that in anticipation of many years of success. It’s unfortunate that you missed the unbridled optimism and fandom implicit in that statement. Then again, as a Bears fan you haven’t had too many reasons over the past few decades to be optimistic, that fluke last year notwithstanding, so I understand how you might miss that.

Well it’s officially Steelers week for us.

You’re going to have a lot of fun this year under Arians when on third and 8 all of your receivers will run 5 yard patterns.

I’m not going to go proclaiming that we’re going to stomp you so long as we have the human/walrus hybrid in charge of things. But on the plus side, he’s partially been made a lame duck and the offense is somewhat out of his control. But I hope your team underestimates us as much as you do, because it’ll make a kick in the balls that much sweeter.

Hopefully we can get some officiating to recognize when Marvel Smith holds Wimbley on every other play, because Wimbley just flat out owns him.

Here’s wishing you a 2-14 season (you have to beat the ratbirds twice so they can go 0-16).

PS. Steely McBeam is a gay porn name.

…and there’s the kick! The season is underway!

I have a new 55 inch TV that I bought specifically to watch the NFL.

Football season is here!!!
