the TiVo of the Internet

Okay, I have just noticed the website StumbleUpon. You guys have to check this out! This is by far the coolest app I have seen on the web ever. I started another post, and after HOURS of going through this stuff, I am amazed at this stuff. I have been using it for a couple of hours and it has gotten so much better than I basically am thoroughly interested in every single page (almost) that I encounter.

For those of you that don’t know it works similar to TiVo. Here is a link to a review.

Basically it works like this. You install a toolbar and get registered. Then you can click to rate a page thumbs-up or thumbs down. After you click around 300 different options for your interests, then you can click on the Stumble button where it will take you to a random website based on your interests and ratings. It uses this in the same way that Tivo does (in my opinion, better) and you start stumbling, giving negatives to those that you don’t like, and positives to those that you like. And I leave the other ones neutral.

You can also click to a forum where there are postings by others on specific websites. From there you can click on someone elses name (whose comment you agree with) and then see what they liked, etc. Way too addictive.

You know how excited you feel when you find a site that has tons of information that you really enjoy? I have run into about 15 of such sites in about 2 hours. Its amazing, and I’m addicted.

I hope y’all like it and give it a shot, because it is wicked cool, IMHO

BTW, I hope Cafe society is the proper place because it is sort of entertainment.

just to give it a more cafe society feel, the last site I stumbled upon was this:

http://www.moviecliches.com/cliche3.html#travel

its a comprehensive list of movie cliches!

Funny, that’s how most adware and spyware programs wind up on one’s computer. Are you sure you weren’t just hooked by one?

Peace.

most reviews seem to think its spyware free. Besides, its worth it…

I have found so many good websites since I installed it. I was in an internet slump, I guess. But you gotta try it. I think the way they gain revenue is by taking you to an ad webiste every now and then when you click Stumble. Also they have a donation page, which seems strange for spyware to me. It was also highly ranked on the Firefox extension website. Here is a link to the glowing reviews. It is as good as it sounds!

You guys here have to get on board! this is amazing

Hmmm. First thing I did when I set up my TiVo was to disable that “record things you think I might like” feature. Last thing I need is my computer doing the same thing.

yeah, I know what you are talking about there Athena. But this isn’t like that. I likened it to TiVo, because that is the best way to describe it, but it is much better than TiVo is at predicting sites that may interest you. I’d liken it more to the predictive routine on Netflix, but its still better. See, it takes you about 5 seconds to see if a website interests you, but with TiVo, or a movie, it can take up to 15 minutes or so. One of my interests is music. This site has shown me so many good sites for the music that I like. If you hit the Stumble button and don’t know what the site is, then you can simply click on the little forum button to see what others said about the website. It is also a personals site as well. You can find others with similar interests and see what they liked.

The other thing… it is so addictive. You just can’t stop. After you get through with one site, you just can’t resist to do it again. Read the reviews above at least. People say that it is in the same league as google in revolutionizing the way you surf.

I just stumbled three times and here is what I got.
