My wife and I were watching “The L Word” the other night and a character on the show used the term “fag hag.” For the life of us, though, we couldn’t recall ever having heard of a male equivalent. We have a few lesbian friends, and they thought it over and said, “You know, we’ve got alot of straight male friends, but none of them that come close to the same thing as a fag hag.”
Maybe I’m being whooshed here, but a fag hag is a woman who prefers to hang out with gay men. Sometimes her primary social relationship is with a gay man.
I’ve discussed this with my lesbian friends a lot, and none of us could come up with a satisfactory term. There doesn’t seem to be an ‘accepted’ term either, at least in London. Dyke Mike, Dyke-Alike, Lesbiman, male fag hag, nothing really fits or has the assonance of ‘fag hag.’
Then again, there isn’t as much demand for the term, as there aren’t that many straight men who hang around with lesbians, certainly not in the intentional way that some fag hags do; a male friend of mine is the closest I know to a male fag hag and he just happens to be friends with several lesbians, he didn’t do it on purpose.
A “fag hag” basically is a straight woman who wants a male companion for her social life but has no desire for a sexual relationship. So she seeks out a gay man.
So what would be the male equivalent? A straight man who wants a woman to be seen with socially but has no desire to have sex with? Do you know anyone like that? If this type of man exists at all, he is rare enough that there’s no need to invent a term for him.

I read about this term for the first time in the past month or two here and loved it immediately but mostly because it automatically makes me think of the apocryphal Dutch Boy that saved his village. Hehehe.
Yes, I realized too late that I’d misread the OP. I’m not aware of a prevalent joking term for a straight guy who hangs out with lesbians, probably it doesn’t happen that often. I’ve heard ‘dyke tyke’ before, as you noted.
See, this is why I like the term “fruit fly.” I refer to my female hang out buds as fruit flies. Don’t know if Lesbians mind being referred to as fruits or not, but the term could work for anybody, I guess. Heh. I’ve got straight male buds who I’ve told hangin’ round with me makes them fruit flies. They liked it. Actually, it may have been the beer we were all liking a lot that made em like the term.
FWIW, it used to mainly mean a woman who always falls for gay men, but nowadays (or at least around here) it just means a woman (gay or straight – both of my fag hags are lesbians) who thinks gay guys are the bomb – not as a beard, but as a friend/bitchery partner/backup at IKEA.
Well, most dyke tykes (or whatever) I’m familiar with are gay boys.
