Who knew that TubaDiva was being paid to administer SDMB?

Ed admits it here.

If you want to debate TubaDiva’s actions or the administrations response to it, take it to the Pit thread linked. This thread is strictly a poll.

I’ve seen many references to how TubaDiva has given so much time to this community in her self-less volunteer work. We now know she’s been getting paid to do it. First I heard of it, but I’ve missed some ‘common knowledge’ about this board before.

So how many posters here were aware that she was paid? Please limit responses to ‘Yes, I knew’, ‘No, I didn’t’, or ‘I heard rumors or suspected it but did not know for certain’.

Didn’t know. Does it matter?

My response to your question is in the Pit thread, which would be an excellent place to discuss how TubaDiva being a paid employee may or may not change the implications of the recent unpleasantness.

I don’t think I knew, but now that you mention it I think I recall reading it in one of the threads around here.

I didn’t know.

How about a response also that says "Yes/No, I was/wasn’t aware of it, but what difference does it make and what is the real purpose of this thread?

You offer a biased-sounding comment in your OP (“I’ve seen many references to how TubaDiva has given so much time to this community in her self-less volunteer work”) that you then place outside the limits of response, asking only who knew. If you only wanted to know who knew, then why not just say so without including prejudical extraneous comments and then putting answers to those comments off-limits?

Chicanery is afoot, in my opinion.

Didn’t know.

I didn’t know.

I was simply paraphrasing things said recently that led me to believe that I was not the only one unaware.

My ten cents is that the two ideas are not dichotomous. I knew a woman who was paid a stipend for running a charity. She got about 40% of what I was being paid as an office grunt in a public-sector job to take on immense responsibility, the stipend being calculated on a half-time basis. She put about 60-70 hours a week in on that job, as a labor of love. The stipend did not even begin to cover what she contributed to it.

I am pleased that TubaDiva is getting paid for what she contributes to the running of this operation. Though I have never been behind the scenes here, I have on other message boards, and can appreciate the immensity of the work. I have been surprised that the small staff of volunteers here can accomplish it all, and am not at all surprised to find that Ed needs paid help to get it all done.

I would also comment that the OP, while phrased in an IMHO opinion-poll style, is a thinly disguised rant that belongs in the Pit. I also have this strange suspicion that a bit of cyberstalking is going on, just from having observed similar things before.

And no, I am not interested in whitewashing offenses. Daniel (LHoD) said precisely what I felt in the Pit thread, and Scotticher has there confirmed my hunches, of which I’d spoken to no one. I believe Ed handled the situation properly, and that this is beginning to move from discussion of legitimate concerns, which I can understand people having, into a mob equipped with torches and pitchforks ready to storm the Reader offices. And I think that needs to stop.

You’re hell bent on destroying her, it seems. And you’re a nonpaying Guest at that!

So, what’s your real stake blue? I’ve noted your smarmy obfuscations to such questions in other posts. You have an axe to grind but you will not reveal your true motivation.

I sincerely wish the administration would institute a 3-hate-posts-per-Guest rule , followed by a 10-year ban.

Please, blue, find another site to spew your venom.

Didn’t know. Don’t care.

Since we’re not in the Pit, I can’t challenge this in a more direct style, but I would think mere curiosity would lead to an OP more along the line of “Well, according to Ed Zotti’s post, TubaDiva has been being paid for her services. I wasn’t aware of this, was anyone else?”

As it is, the appearance given is that of asking a question you already know the answer to full well in hopes of making it look like the wool has been pulled over our eyes in regard to TubaDiva.

You clearly have quite a bit of experience on this board, experience which belies your guest status. You should know better than to think you could get away with this kind of transparent rabble-rousing without being called on it.

I don’t care and I wish you would go away Blue Ruin.

Didn’t know. Don’t actually care. I have a number of folks working for me ostensibly free but who receive a small stipend in appreciation.

And I, for one, do question whether you have any reason here, Blue Ruin, other than to harp on this one subject.

I’ll echo that sentiment.

What difference does that make? The guest period is a time for people to see if spending whatever it is now to become a member is worth it. **Blue ** does seem to have a fairly good knowledg of the board and its workings, which means that he/she has spent a fair amout of time observing and lurking.

Nothing wrong with that.

Besides, it’s silly to assign someone a lesser degree of respect or importance based on whether or not they’ve ponied up some cash. It’s cliquish, elitist and dare I say ignorant.

Now, if your opinion of **Blue ** was simply based on his/her posts, then that’s legitimate, but you seem to confuse being a member as having certain “rights” that a guest (as a potential member) shouldn’t.

Yes, you mention other posts, but framing it in terms of “I’ve paid my dues, who are you to say anything bad, n00b” isn’t very helpful.

Oh, as for the OP, I recall something somewhere (probably in ATMB) wherein it was stated that Admins are paid but Mods are not. Does anyone else remember reading this?

Didn’t know. Not surprised. Don’t care.
