I don’t always agree with Otto but that’s what makes this place entertaining; I want to see other points of view (and then pit them mercilessly of course, BWAHAAHHAHA). Here’s hoping they have a change of heart about it because his comment was really on the low end of the snarky range. The posters who’ve been here a long time clearly care about the board and make their comments out of a genuine desire to see it improved IMO. It seems reasonable to confine this type of discussion to the appropriate forums but it disheartens me to see it being quashed altogether.

Wow. I understand the annoyance Ed/Admins/TPTB have at all the bitching that’s been going on all over the boards (it’s been irritating me, too!), but talk about an over-reaction! I don’t think this is a good policy, but some people do need to stop whining about every last thing that isn’t exactly the way they want it!
The mood on these boards is really, really ugly lately - I’m surprised new people are signing up, given as how posters and mods are at each other’s throats, and bannings can come without warning based purely on one interpretation of a post. It just isn’t pleasant to come here at the moment. I’m sorry Otto had to be used as an example that way. I hope everyone just calms down, because these are not the boards I’ve come to love over the years!

Otto has contributed a lot to this board over the years. He’s a fine, thoughtful poster, and it’s damn foolish to kick him out for “snark”. This decision harms the Board.
For those of you who are not aware, I’ll chime in that Otto was a problematic poster at best. He had received a ‘final warning’ in the past, had a lot of warnings under his belt, and the moderation staff had discussed his banning previously (though, obviously, never acted).
Whether or not that justifies the banning is up to the individual observer, but I felt some context might be helpful.
I don’t complain about the administration, at least not very often. I maybe have complained about the timeouts once or twice, and about Tubadiva occasionally, but not very often because she helped me with my name change.
That being said, I think the banning was the act of a temper tantrum and rather childish. I thought the mods were vetted on here to make sure they weren’t allowed to make childish bannings?
Best to keep one’s mouth shut these days I guess.
