but bobby and hank were talking about comedy and you know how Hank is about that and bobby says something about weird al and hank says
“weird al blew his brains out in the 80s after people stopped buying his albums?”
i dont get it
is the joke that hank doesnt know reality
or is he wanting to make it look unattractive to bobby

It’s just a reference to Weird Al’s non-relevance these days.
I would guess he’s confusing Weird Al and Kurt Cobain, and then confusing 80’s for 90’s. Just shows how clueless Hank is about pop culture.
I think it was a set up for Bobby’s line later, “I see things clearly now. I’m going to grow up without anyone to love, and die friendless and alone like Weird Al Yankovic.”
But Hank wants to make it unattractive to Bobby. Hank doesn’t want Bobby to be a comedian and keeps trying to talk him out of it. And Hank is willing to make blatantly false statements to Bobby to get him to do what he wants, like “Soccer was invented by European ladies to keep them busy while their husbands did the cooking.” It’s a recurring theme throughout the series.
As a side note, I saw Weird Al in concert about 10 years ago, and he played that clip during the show.
