tips for finding a good podcast

What’s the best resource for finding a podcast that meets a persons interests and requirements (e.g. doesn’t rely on itunes for distribution, x to y minutes long)?

While most (all?) podcasts that want to get wide distribution do publish their feeds on iTunes, none of them require it. That’s because Apple does not host the data–it only aggregates the feeds (RSS, usually). There are other aggregators (is Podcast Pickle still in business?).

I find most of my podcasts from recommendations on other podcasts or from friends, or I go directly to certain publishers that I know produce quality product like NPR, Slate, TWiT, 5by5, or Smodcast.

What are you looking for, specifically? Maybe other Dopers can help.

I’ll have to check those out. I know twit hosts a podcast I used to enjoy (securitynow) before I realized their usual material was a bit too specialized/cutting edge for me (just a bit; I could follow along, but missed the importance of many details they were talking about).

As for what I’m specifically looking for, I’d like a daily podcast about 15-30 minutes long either about national news or tech. Basically, I want something interesting and informative to listen during my morning routine (shower, shave, etc.).

I use the OneCast app on my Nook to stream podcasts. It’s easy to use the search and they have a nice selection. I got the app from the Google Play store.
