Wow. None of those in my top ten, and a handful are execrable abominations. My favorite movies of the 90s are Dead Man and Showgirls. Both from 1995. Hmm . . . almost half of my lifetime topten albums are from 95 too. I smell a thread coming.

Sorry, but these are “war movies.” :frowning:

A little tougher choice but I went Belle. Can’t exactly say why but Private Ryan never hooked me.

It was either Belle or Private Ryan for me. Out of that whole list, those are the two that I if I come across either on TV I’ll stop and watch. I finally went with Ryan, on the strength of the Omaha sequence.

While I really love A Midnight Clear and its message (it’s in our Christmas rotation), the opening scenes in Private Ryan are riveting and terrifying, the story moves along crisply, and the acting is superb. It’s a tie for me, really, but I went with Tom Hanks.

Other: RIDE WITH THE DEVIL (Lee), UNDERGROUND (Kusturica)

Thanks again.

I’m adding these to the “overflow file” for later polling:

Ride with the Devil (I) Ride with the Devil (1999) - IMDb (1999)
Underground Underground (1995) - IMDb (1995)

I went with Saving Private Ryan because I’ve seen it more times than any other movie on the list, which I was surprised that I’ve seen 9 of them. This must have been my war movie phase because the last war movie that I’ve watched was Band of Brothers (and yes I know it was a mini-series).
The first war movie I remember seeing was Schindler’s List when I was about ten, that was pretty disturbing for my ten year old mind but it also sparked an interest in WWII.

I know what you mean. I was past 50 when I saw Schindler’s List and I was disturbed as well. Ralph Fiennes is only now outliving his phenomenal work in that.

“Schindler’s List” is probably the best movie on the list, but “Saving Private Ryan” is much more of a WAR movie, so I chose that.

What about Heaven and Earth? Oliver Stone movie, Kitaro soundtrack, and a woman’s point of view.

I know it’s not a common ‘favorite’ among the movies listed, but I’ll always have a place in my heart for ‘The Truman Show’.

What, no Tank Girl?

Headed to Overflow where the Voters will decide. Thanks, all!

Heaven & Earth Heaven & Earth (1993) - IMDb (1993)

The Truman Show The Truman Show (1998) - IMDb (1998)

Tank Girl Tank Girl (1995) - IMDb (1995)
