I have a bad feeling about this…
I hope someone paid the Kaminoans to clone Harrison Ford about 20 years ago. Otherwise the whining about whoever gets cast will resonate throughout the galaxy for a long long time.
$20 on Chris Pratt.
I was a big fan of the old Brian Daley Han Solo novels (as a kid I read them over and over), but I doubt they’ll go to that source.
I thought Chris Pratt too. But I dunno if his head is square enough. But everybody loves Chris Pratt and everybody loves(ed?) Harrison Ford so they got that going for them.
River Phoenix!
Yeah, don’t read those again as an adult. They didn’t age particularly well, IMHO. Though Bollux & Blue Max remained pretty cool.
Mebbe Bradley Cooper…?
To be honest, the only actor that I can think of who has played a properly smug, misogynistic a-hole in a leading role, since the 80s, is Vin Diesel (e.g., in XxX). That style of character has basically been killed off, due to the misogyny. I’m not sure whether it’s a character that can actually be brought back, as originally portrayed, in modern cinema. They would have to change him.
As long as they cast someone who is properly scruffy-looking.
If its Shia Labeouf , I am officially going to report George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy to the ICC.
How was Han Solo a misogynist?
Nathan Fillion. Oh wait, he already did.
How “pre” is this prequel going to be? If it’s more than a few years prior to the OT, then Pratt’s too old. I think he’s already older than Ford was in the first movie.
I think a Han Solo prequel is a bad idea, only partly because of the inevitable comparisons to Ford.
I think the real strength of the Star Wars franchise is the “world building” that has been done. The SW universe feels real and lived in. It has depth and history. I’d really rather see new characters in that universe than continuously revisiting the Skywalkers, Solos, et al.
There’s no reason they couldn’t do a movie starring some new character of a similar “scoundrel” type as Solo. He/she wouldn’t have to be locked into the timeline or history of Han.
I know they do have a movie planned that is supposed to be about a new character, and it runs parallel to some of the events of the OT. I’m more interested in that than The Young Han Solo Chronicles.
But, hey, maybe Shia LeBeouf is available.
I’d have to go back and rewatch the original movies. Maybe I’m mixing Indiana Jones and Han Solo, but to me they always seemed like the same character, calling every other woman “honey”, mansplaining things to the woman, etc. That Harrison Ford was able to pull it off is probably the source of his success. Many other actors would have been done in by trying to say similar lines.
A Star Wars prequel? How could THAT go wrong?
Have it be Solo’s first day of kindergarden.
I’m more concerned with who’s going to write it than who’s going to star in it.
I saw an article suggesting a couple of twenty-something actors for this (e.g., Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort). Chris Pratt is too old, although I could see him in an Indiana Jones reboot.
Chris Pratt can’t be in everything!
It should be Jennifer Lawrence.
Actually, this guy, who played young Harrison Ford in a recent movie, is the fan’s choice. And if I was Kathleen Kennedy, I’d give him a real shot, with a bit of acting coaching and similar support.
The opening scene will probably be Greedo shooting at Han.
