Han Solo prequel planned

I really think they need to go with someone unknown for this.

Wow! I saw the previews for that movie and there are a few quick clips of that actor …and I assumed it was a bit of CGI effects making Harrison Ford younger! Like they did to Cate Blanchett and Brad Bitt in Benjamin Button.

Still Shot from the Movie

You’d think somewhere in Disney’s Star Wars division they’d have a big glowing neon sign that read: “No Prequels” in big letters. Ah well.

Anyways, since they’re going that route, they pretty much have to cast a Lando as well (presumably they can just keep using Mayhew as Chewie as long as he stays healthy enough to run around in that suit). Anyone want to guess who they’ll cast there.

Donald Glover?

Even with a mustache, the resemblance seems like it might be kind of a stretch. Plus I have trouble picturing Glover pulling off a suave character, though maybe he’s a better actor than I think.

Well, there’s a big question mark there. He walks with a cane now as it is. I’m not sure how they dealt with that for The Force Awakens, but his range of mobility is certainly limited.

As long as they cast Chewie with a knock-kneed limping performer who can emulate his unique gait, I think anyone can be under the walking carpet.

I dunno… it could work.

I like him a lot, I think he’s a good actor, and let’s face it - he looks more like Billy Dee Williams than Ewan MacGregor looked like Alec Guinness.

That dude even has the smirk! I think that’s what gives Ford the edge, he’s got that smirk that kind of says, “shit what have I gotten myself into”, and “What the fuck do I do now,” and “yep, I meant to do that,” all at once.

Compare that to someone like Tom Selleck, who was supposed to play Indy, who’s usually got a smile on his face just doesn’t work for characters like Solo and Indy. They need someone that can pull off the ‘I don’t care, it had to be don’ type attitude when he shoots someone.

I never saw Solo, or Indy, as a misogynist. We only ever see him interact with a handful of women, and those are ones he’s interested in. Part of it always seemed to be his nerves in dealing with women.

That could actually be a big chunk of the definition of misogynist.

Good call!: http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/21/entertainment/donald-glover-lando-han-solo-star-wars/index.html

Also, a few months ago they announced that Alden Ehrenreich would be the one to star as Han Solo. You might remember him from films like Blue Jasmine (where he played the stepson of Cate Blanchett’s character) or Hail Caesar! (where he played the actor in the Western film, and was, I thought, pretty good).

Joonas Suotamo is now playing Chewbacca. Mayhew plays him for close ups and some of the sitting scenes and Suotamo plays him for any standing or walking scenes.

I had rather low expectations for this prequel until I learned that Donald Glover will be playing Lando. Even if everything else is crummy, I know I’ll love Donald Glover’s performance. I still hope he’ll get to be Spider Man someday (probably in the same universe in which Idris Elba is James Bond).

Should be as bad as the Butch Cassidy Sundance kid prequel someone once tried. No interest, not even if it can out suck The Force Awakens, which managed to outsuck the three prequels

I think you’re gonna find yourself in the minority there, Sparky.

I think the movie will be good. As will Rogue One. Yes Force Awakens was lousy, but these are the best of the prequels; i.e original stories, without George Lucas to muck things up.

A young Han Solo? That’s just the opportunity Tom Selleck has been waiting for!

Compared to 99% of the rest of the EU, Brian Daley’s work stands head-and-shoulders above, IMHO.

And stand up quite well.

Have you read any of Daley’s other works? The Coramonde series is also quite fondly remembered, and, again, still hold sup well compared to most of the drek available under the heading of “fantasy.”

The directors of this movie, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, were fired today. They have been filming since February and had several weeks of shooting left.

No word yet on who will take the reins to finish up.

I’d really like to know what creative differences Lord/Miller and Kennedy had were, though we might never find out. It’s hard to argue with the results money-wise but I think they’re still not quite hitting the mark on Star Wars post-Lucas yet.
