That’s how much it cost to get my bike out of the shop.

That’s for replacing the Vance & Hines exhaust system that was stolen (there’s a Pit thread about that), replacing the chain, tune-up, oil change, and synching the carburettors. They washed it, too.

I should bloody hope so too.

Dang - you could get a decent computer for that price.

I noticed some cracking on the sidewall of my tires. They should be okay for a while, but I need to think about replacing them soon. And motorcycle tires aren’t cheap! I think the rear one is about $150 or so, and the front is about $120. I like Dunlops, but Bridgestone Battle Axes seem were the only ones available last time I changed them.

Damn… how long was it in the shop?

A week. The thieves broke one of the mirrors and the stalk on the other one was tweaked from a crash. Aftermarket mirrors proved unacceptable, so I was forced to get factory replacements ($71 each). Although the mechanical work was done on Tuesday afternoon, the shop called me to see if I really wanted factory mirrors (because of the price). Since they hadn’t ordered them last Saturday when I brought the bike in, and I couldn’t reach them Tuesday (they’re closed Sunday and Monday), the mirrors weren’t ordered until Wednesday and didn’t arrive until yesterday.

Damn, I’m sorry to hear how much the repairs cost – that sucks big time. But now that that snarky chain is finally fixed, you wanna go riding tomorrow?!!

I almost posted, “Why not!” But then I remembered I have to do some work on some MGB parts so I can get them to the shop on Monday. Maybe next weekend?

Sounds like a plan! Give us a call!

What am I supposed to do with this gun lock? The state says the gun shop had to supply one, but they didn’t say I had to use it. Hey! What are these things on my muffler and exhaust pipe? Metal loops where the springs go? Hmmm… Yup! The cable goes through them and around the solid part of the bike! And it’s even out of the way!

And I’ve just purchased a stout cable and a Kryptonite lock so that I can fix the bike to the upright in the carport.

Now to get to those MGB parts…

You could try http://www.casporttouring.com/ for tires. I get mine there and they are really cheap. I get both my Connie tires for ~95 each instead of 150-170 each. You may have to call about your tires though as they may not have them in stock but they can get them. Shipping is cheap to as they only charge what it costs.

Then try http://www.ronayers.com/main.cfm for parts, OEM parts at that, very very cheap. I’ve gotten foot pegs, the Connie breaks them easy if you drop it, for a lot less, at least $10 less if not more.

I’ve also learned to do my own maintence, like vavle adjustments etc. I still haven’t learned how to deal with the carbs though. But at least you have your bike back!

That’s nothing, dude. MY bike (which, as the avid reader knows, is the Euro version of Johnny’s bike) needed about $1300 in repairs after it fell over in a storm. At least you got some riding fun out of your repair costs.

[sub]Well apart from the stolen exhaust, anyways. And of course, my bike was insured for storm damage… [/sub]

My Divvy has Metzler tires, which I think are cheaper than the prices you mention. The Yamaha Diversion Club Nederland (www.ydcn.nl - has some English info too) says the Michelin Macadam, Dunlop D103FA (front) / D103A (rear), and Yokohama F209 (front) / R209 (rear) should also be options for the Divvy/Seca II. Maybe those are worth checking out, in terms of price?

I picked up my bike yesterday. I spend half a fucking hour push-starting the little bitch, as the regular starting problems only seem to be worse when it’s been sitting still for, say, 5 months.
All was forgiven when I opened up the throttle after clearing the city limits, though. Whoooooo!!

The season’s on. It’s going in for repairs next week, after which the start problems should be a thing of the past. I just hope my bill will be less than $1000, though!

I don’t ever have starting problems with my bike nor does anyone ever mess with my bike… < veg >

Well, of course nobody messes with your bike! Who’d want a Harley?

ducks and runs

[sub]Just kidding. We’re all on two wheels, eh? [/sub]

Duh. That thing probably has a kickstart, Gus.

[sub]FTR: I always wave to all bikers, Harley riders included. I’ve noticed that the hardcore Harley riders (including Hells Angels) will wave back, whereas the yuppie midlife crisis scum shiny 2003 Softail riders won’t. Of course, Gold Wing riders won’t wave back either, but that’s probably because their espresso machine just finished brewing a pot of coffee.[/sub]

**Coldfire[\b] just because someone owns a 2003 softail doesn’t mean that they won’t wave back, or that they might be in their forties, or that they are going through a midlife crisis! And I don’t even like espresso.

I don’t agree with your criteria, I think it has more to do with ego and some people thinking they are just plain better rather than the make, model, and year of the bike.

Oh, of course it was a generalisation, not meant to offend anyone. Well, not deeply, anyway.

If you ride a Japanese or Italian bike, you’re supposed to dis the Harley riders, and vice versa. It’s been that way ever since the first Cro Magnon push-started his f$%#^%# coldblooded Yamaha.

Although it has to be said: the midlife crisis riders never ride a second hand early 80’s Harley: it’s always a brand new, hyperexpensive model with about 1,000 miles on the odometer. But hey, their bikes cost twice as much as my car, so they’re obviously doing something right!

Jonny L.A., congrats on getting the bike back! Coldfire,I think you’re right about the MLC guys riding brand new bikes or cars for that matter. I will say it took me to midlife before I could afford a new Harley. My first was an 85’ Wide Glide basket case. Luckily, I had a friend who owned an “outlaw” Harley shop who helped me put it back together.

Obviously, the fact that MLC riders ride brand new Harleys doesn’t mean that all brand new Harley riders are mere midlife crisis wannabe-biker wankers, even if they DO fit the age bracket.

Oh yeah? Well my mom drives a 2002 Vespa ET-4!

It blew over in the last windstorm and my mom was terribly upset. Rushed over to the Vespa dealer for an authentic Vespa touch-up kit and advice on how to put the mirror back on.

Glad your bike is whole again, Johnny … sorry to hear about the huge price tag.
