Someone brought this annoying jingle up in one of my other threads. This had to be one of the all-time WORST pieces of pablum to ever come out of an advertising board room! I cannot see Don Draper and Roger Sterling approving of such a dreadfully annoying jingle! Yeah I know that even those of us who despise it STILL RECALL IT but that doesn’t make me want to donate my car to them! In fact I would donate my car to the Salvation Army charity simply because their appeals for my unwanted personal property do NOT leave annoyed. SO…in the opinions of those of you here: do you think the ones who came up with this jingle had the slightest clue of how annoyingly bad it is?
Dammit. Now you’ve got the jingle stuck in my head. At least they’ve changed it from the original, where the adult voice had this stupid vibrato at the end of each line that sounded like a bleating sheep. Drove me up a wall. Plus wasn’t there an awful heavy metal version of it last year, or did I just dream that?
Maybe this is what you were dreaming of? (You can see the actual kid singing in this video.)
If not, there is a Kars4kids youtube channel that you can browse until you find the version of your dreams. It even includes the entries from the Jingle Contest.
Yes, the fact that you can recall the jingle and that you have been moved to share it here where hundreds of people will read it and perhaps discuss it makes it an utter failure as far the advertising business is concerned.
How dare you sir! I’d rather search for a You Tube channel with Ann Coulter and a goat than watch a KARS FOR KIDS ad!
I never thought the second singer was an adult, but more a kid whose voice was cracking.
And they never say what they do with the money.
My absolutely least favorite radio ad ever. I’d switch to Rush to avoid it.
That’s because you’ve never bothered to look at the Kars4kids youtube channel!
Here is your donation hard at work at the Kars-4-Kids summer camp (boys’ division).
You know you want to look.
What were they thinking?!
I think they wanted something to stay in your head - and an annoying jingle can work. Just ask PC Richard and Son with that incredibly annoying high-pitched whistle.
It’s an illustration of Oscar Wilde’s dictum: “There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” How else are they going to get folks to think about donating a car?
In a way, it is a longer-term version of what Rolling Stone did with their bomber cover…
Aside from the annoying commercial jingle, I recommend that you look into what the group does with the money. Per their website, they are “dedicated to addressing the educational, material, emotional and spiritual needs of Jewish children and their families.” Fine enough, but I prefer to give to secular groups.
And if your goal is to make a charitable contribution, sell the car on your own and give the entire proceeds to the charity of your choice. I can almost guarantee that you’ll be able to contribute more that way than by a car donation (especially a car donation to a group that spends a large amount on advertising).
