10 Greatest Cartoon Series of All Time

Someone said “Animaniacs”, but no one has mentioned “Pinky and the Brain”???

Rather than second the many worthy cartoons noted in the this list, I will instead add another worthy of recognition:

Tiny Toons.

Among Series shown to a wide audience in North America. Though I love some of them, I would not include anime available only through purchasing videos, but would include anime imports available to a wide audience such as Speed Racer or Battle of the Planets. With due respect to Jet Black, I think my #1 had better writing than the Simpsons at its peak, but we’re not far off.

  1. The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle
  2. The Simpsons
  3. Batman, the Animated Series.
  4. Scooby Doo (original only)
  5. Underdog
  6. George of the Jungle
  7. Pinky and the Brain
  8. Johnny Quest (original)
  9. Crusader Rabbit
  10. Schoolhouse Rock
  1. The Simpsons
  2. Rocky and Bullwinkle

Once upon a time…
Tick

  1. Family Guy
Continues where The Simpsons left off for sharp writing and witty references to modern culture. Redefining the bounds of Network animated series, and it is a travesty that there are no TV networks in Australia that have the nads to run with it. The Griffins are the TV family for the new millenium.

  2. The Simpsons
Would have come first, but loses points as the last two seasons do not do the Simpson name justice :(. The Golden Age (seasons 3-9) have produced some of the best television ever made.

  3. South Park
Pushes the envelope in all directions. Proof that there is a fine line between stupid and clever. Minimalist animation is cool, too.

  4. Ren and Stimpy (early John K.)
I would have loved to have seen The New Adventures Of Mighty Mouse to see how John Kricfalusi’s work evolved. The quality of the animation is exquisite and the humour is seriously skewed. Absolute classic stuff.

  5. The Smurfs
    'Nuff said.

  6. Duckman
Inside every private dick with beak lives a small, balding man. Features one of the coolest and most underrated TV sidekicks ever, Cornfed.

  7. Rocky and Bullwinkle
These guys had quality scripts to work with, if not animation.

  8. Futurama
Matt Groening has really spread himself too thinly in a creative sense. Should have killed off The Simpsons before working on Futurama.

  9. Scooby Doo, pre (S)crappy
Definite cult value. Scooby was a champion, Shaggy was a legend and Velma was a bit of a hottie (I like plain, slighly dumpy looking girls with glasses :)). (S)crappy should have been dragged from the back of the Mystery Machine at high speed over a large cactus patch.

  10. Beavis and Butthead
Uh huh … huh uh uh huh. You said ‘butt’ … huh uh uh huh … Yeah Yeah! Butt! Awful animation would normally render a cartoon unwatchable, but the poor drawing of B&B added to its grunge value. A definite product of the early to mid 90’s.
    Honourable mentions:

The Jetsons. Campy 60s animation at its best! Jane, stop this crazy thing!

The Critic. Anything with a short, fat, balding man tends to be pretty good value (the Costanza factor).
