!!!!11!!one!1

Would you all please quit fucking doing ^that^? Nobody actually does that except with your intended irony. You’re mimicking a characterization based on fantasy. And it makes you look like a fucking idiot.

+1!!1!

Eleven!

I can assure you, OP, that in the days when I joined the SDMB, exclamation points were rampant. Thick, throbbing, exclamation points . . .

Lots of people do it. You need only be a Facebook member or read the myriad NFL team boards on ESPN.com for proof. The fundamental lack of literacy is staggering, and the people who abuse exclamation points like that apparently believe that such overuse will overcome that fact. Typing “ONEELEVENTYTHOUSAND!!!11!!!” rightfully mocks them.

I will agree that the convention is overused, though. If that’s where you’re going with this I can get on board with that.

I have occasionally seen long strings of exclamation points that accidentally erupt into ones at the end, sort of like this!!!11

But not around this board so much, and not very often in general. When the !!!111one1!!! meme started, like most of these things it was funny at first, and then vaguely amusing, and now aggressively tired and boring. And also like all other cliches, it’s hard for people to quit doing it, because it’s sitting right at the top of the Bag Of Cheap And Easy Jokes. Right next to cow-orker and intarwebz.

I don’t see it nearly as often as I use to, but yes, it used to be very common for people to release the shift key before the 1/! key, and not bother to go back and fix it.

A few years back the opposite thing happened. One of the local media outlets put out a press release on the internet concerning the H1N! vaccine…someone forget to take their finger off the shift button. I still have a screen shot of that one and I get reminded of it once in a while when it comes up since my screen saver at work cycles through all the pictures on my computer.

Ok, I am really not hip and I get the OP is ripping on another Pit Thread here, still, what the hell are you guys talking about?

ETA: as per emcee2k, is this similar to ‘pwnage’?

Stop doing that!!11on3

(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Chessic Sense is right. This ‘Eleventy-one’ shit is lame and boring and 100% not funny. Quit it.

Oh, excuse me, I was looking for Bo. He’s usually not this tardy.

Having a legitimate, specific, reason to kill someone. (How can I make the  laughable while going for the OP at the local coffee shoppe?)

I read this and thought the OP was ranting about people using ^that^.

I swear to god, some people won’t be happy unless all of the little jokey jokes and memes and little familiar sayings are abolished from the community forever!

Look, I know that sometimes someone beats a joke to death. But you don’t want to get to a point where we suck all the color out of our posts in an attempt to make sure every keystroke we make is completely original. Dammit.

ETA: and I disagree with MsWhatsit that it is the same as ‘cow-worker’ and dumb shit like that. I use “!!!111” sometimes. It has a specific point. Cow-worker is just dumb.

As are a number of my Cow-orkers.

Twenty two?

Forgive me for being less than clear, but I’m not pitting the mocking use of exclamation points. It’s the 1s and ones that annoy me. The only people that do that are doing it intentionally for a joke. I’ve literally never seen it accidentally.

How would you know?
