11 year-old girl suspended for "dangerous" cartwheels. ::speechless::

Could Blackacre actually be… right about something for once? God help me, I think maybe so.

While it’s highly likely that the teachers were overreacting in the first place, the kid was a brat for continuing to do it. Would it have killed the girl to sit down and read a damn book during lunch? And pulling her out for homeschooling? That’s a real good lesson there, mom and dad. Maybe when your kid’s arrested for snorting crank and says “I thought the cops were absolutely weird, because I know other people shooting heroin and I think that’s more dangerous than speed” you’ll look back on this and wish you would have told her to sit her ass down.

Also, what kind of parent names their kid “Leland”? Especially when the last name is “Faegre”? No wonder the dad is such a :wally *.

*why is the “putz” smilie called “wally”?

It’s a tribute to deceased Doper – Wally, obviously – that was fond of calling people putzes.

Not exactly funny. Last week a guy in the UK deliberately parked his car on a level crossing. The resulting crash killed six people along with him and injured something like 30 more.

When I was in grade school girls would get in trouble for doing cartwheels- not because cartwheels were dangerous, but because the girls wore short, floppy, Catholic School Girl skirts!

Cartwheel girls were very popular!

I just don’t get these sorts of parents. At. All. If I’d been suspended, my parents sure as hell wouldn’t have been on my side unless it was a truly unjust situation. I’d have been in real trouble at home for a good long time! As would be my kid, if I had one.

Fucking morons.

Why do people in the media always want to do these hell in a handcart stories that tell one side of a stupid story in a way that makes it seem like somehow one dumb, out of context incident proves that the world is stupid and we should all just kill ourselves? What is the fucking benefit to society in trying to prove to the public that schools are stupid institutions that hate children? Seriously? What is gained by anyone? What’s the fucking motivation?

I just don’t understand why it’s somehow best to appeal to the shitty, know-it-all, smug, unthinking, reactionary asshole in people. Is that because people are more likely to buy things when they are in a tsk tsk mood? Seriously what’s the benefit to distorting things JUST to make people angry and confused about nothing? Maybe if we didn’t have random obscure strangers to get pissed off about we would all start running around naked roasting Action 5 Newspeople on spits and OH WAIT MAYBE I WOULD DO THAT.

This type of thing makes me feel so stupid and depressed. It gives me this early 90s vibe.

Well, money.

Most media isn’t there to serve you. It’s there to sell advertising spots to merchants.

Bets that six kids at that school got punched in the stomach in the past week without a teacher finding out?

The paranoid notion that a kid is going to put themselves in the hospital because of a cartwheel should be eradicated-- by force if necessary.

He probably assumed the train would just avoid his car by doing a cartwheel.

Nice one.

My take on reading all the articles is that this little snot didn’t think she had to follow the direction of teachers. After several minor punishments, she continued to shout out a big “screw you”. The parents who complain about this suspension are the same ones who complain that kids are out of control.

If it were my child, here would be my take:

Lil’ HT: Mom, sign this form because I’ve been getting in trouble at school for doing cartwheels.

HelenTroy: Why were you asked to stop?

Lil’ HT: They said someone could get hurt. They told me to stop, but I kept doing them.

HelenTroy: Well, it may or may not be true that someone could get hurt, but I can see their point. If you can’t do them at school, how about we get you into more organized gymnastic classes, so you can cartwheel until you puke. Also, if you question something a teacher has told you, you come and talk to me first and we’ll decide together if it’s reasonable.

End scene.
