110 degrees- enough

While you American Dopers are enjoying your winter temperatures, feel a little for us. It was so hot today I saw a tree looking for a dog.

I was wondering if this heat was affecting the areas that burned last year too.

It’s weird, too, because I thought cold air sinks, and yet there you are at the bottom burning up while we are having record cold up here on top of the world.

Enjoying? Winter? Those two words do not belong in the same sentence.

Just for giggles the other day I was looking at world satellite pics, and there appeared to be no rain in Australia, nor none coming.

Hopefully soon.

110 is no fun. I much prefer our weather now - as long as we don’t get snow or ice.

Just of of curiosity, what are your record highs in your locale? Surely, 110* must be getting close.

Is it a dry heat?

In Australia? You betcha.

That’s what you get for being a penal colony. Break out your solar powered barbecue grills and throw on some shrimp.

If it gets too hot you’ve always got Elvis watching your six.

More than 43C?! Holy crap. What part of Oz are you in?

I was reading the other day about Melbourne having a nighttime temperature of 34C and was going "oh poor babies, that’s the same temperature as England was in 2006 (and I miss it, just coming out of a spell of -10).

43, though, that’s a different matter.

ETA:

Not in the north - northern Queensland is tropical and humid as anything.

Presumably WA. That’s where the hot weather has been over the past few days.

So, you probably don’t want to know that I’m sitting here, covered in a blanket, with my puppies curled up next to me, and a roaring fire in the fireplace.
I won’t mention it then.

I also wont mention that it’s snowing outside but is still warm enough to not make me miserable.

Cicero, you do know that the Victorian Alps had a dumping of snow today…after the heatwaves of the last few weeks, I had to put some SOCKS on this morning to ward off the cold.

Kambucta, please consider yourself an ex friend!

I am in Perth, where it has been over 43 Celsius again today. I lived previously in Brisbane and that was very humid. I did spend a few years on Thursday Island and the humidity there was something to behold.

It is going to be 37 Celsius tomorrow- just under 100 and it then gets up again towards the end of the week.

Regarding rain, we haven’t had any since November and the longest period without any rain is I think about 80 days so we will give that a bit of a nudge.

110? That is winter around here!

That sounds like a typical summer day here in Las Vegas - and I am one who really likes that weather! No humidity whatsoever, so it is simply hot…and yes, it helps that we have a pool in the backyard and no, we obviously don’t go out and do gardening at noon, but otherwise? I love the heat!
Other than rather high electric bills due to air conditioner, those hot sunny days of summer here in Las Vegas is part of why I moved here.

  • Would rather have 115 here than 85 and humid in Chicago or NYC!
  • Would rather have 4 months of hot dry sun, than 3 months of rain, heat, mosquitoes and poison ivy in the rest of the US - and having to mow grass twice a week.

Still, I suppose if you aren’t used to it, 110 can be a tad warm. Wear a hat, drink lots of liquids and don’t forget your sunscreen.

Maybe the dingo ate your shady.

People have been transported to Australia for less than that one.

To really make this week memorable, the council has delivered a skip bin (industrial sized rubbish bin) to the house. You can order these a few times a year and you just get rid of all your rubbish. In 100 degree heat.

And then I found the largest red back spider I have ever seen out the front yard. I don’t think there have been many fatalities from their bite since an anti venom was discovered, but I don’t want to put it to the test.
