The various door cams show him walking pretty casually. I think if he wanted to kill himself, he would have stayed and continued to shoot until someone took him out.
In probably unrelated news, an MIT professor was just murdered in his home.
He lived in what’s generally considered a safe neighborhood, and while there’s no obvious link between the two, his home is close enough to Brown University that the Brown killer could have walked and committed that murder, too. (It’s an hour’s drive, a five hour bicycle ride, or a 15 hour walk.) Probably unrelated, but my friends at MIT are feeling jumpy, and MIT is locking a lot of doors that are usually open.
In the ongoing search for Saturday’s mass shooting suspect, police found physical and DNA evidence, Mayor Brett Smiley and Providence authorities shared at a 4:05 p.m. press conference. Law enforcement also mapped a detailed path of the shooter before and after the incident.
The shooter’s motive remains unknown, according to Providence Chief of Police Oscar Perez. Law enforcement also does not know if the shooter is affiliated to Brown.
At the conference, Perez shared a map that shows an area of focus where law enforcement has been “intensively walking.”
One thing I found interesting was the part about asking a person NOT “of interest” to come in to be spoken with, while showing a couple of pretty clear images of the guy. From what they said, it appears they believe this person spoke with the alleged perp at some point while he was walking around before the shootings. Saw that interaction on some of the video they’ve collected, perhaps?
I hope the authorities are a little more circumspect about releasing a name this time. I feel so sorry for the guy who had his life dissected by the entire internet in error. That must have been a nightmare.
I suspect that once they actually arrest someone, the name will come out. And also, that they’ll keep it quiet until then. I hope they’ve found the right guy.
Paxson said the suspect took a leave of absence in April 2001, before formally withdrawing in 2003. “The majority of physics classes at Brown have always been held within the Barus and Holley classrooms and labs,” she said, referring to where the shooting took place.
I’m guessing Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha is of Portuguese descent as well. Quite a few in Rhode Island and the part of Massachusetts toward Cape Cod.
