Golly, I laughed pretty much all the way through. I hought it was the best episode of the season (realizing that this isn’t saying much but still). I liked the excessive shock joke, just like I liked the excessive “Bob steps on rakes” joke from the episode of “The Thompsons.” I liked the enemies list. “I’m a people person…and I drink.” I liked everyone dropping by to whale on the Homer dummy. I liked Bob and Apu waxing nostalgic. I didn’t care much for the "Frank Grimes Jr. gag but since “who’s trying to kill Homer” didn’t really matter it didn’t really bother me. What, like it was going to be a regular or recurring character?
Oh, and before I forget…you know that button on your remote control that’s marked “off” or “standby” or whatever? If you aim the remote toward the TV at 7:59 PM Eastern time on Sundays, you can prevent the show you loathe so much from leaking into your home. Perhaps you could use that half hour to find something else to bitch about because really, “[Comic Book Guy]Worst. Episode. Ever.[/Comic Book Guy]”, while an excrutiatingly funny and uncannily original Simpsons critique, kind of loses its charm when seemingly thousands of people post it every frigging week.
“It’s every parent’s dream to outlive their children.”
-Homer, 12/15/02 Flymaster you’re right! They’re not funny at all. Let’s get rid of them now while we can.
Why on earth would we give up ripping into the show? That’s by far the most entertaining part of the Simpsons now. If the writers won’t provide us with entertainment, by gad we’ll make our own!
Frank Grimes Jr., indeed. They seem to be hell-bent on resurrecting obscure characters like Cookie Kwan and Stampy. I fully expect Dr. Marvin Monroe to return from the dead next week.
The funny thing is, “Worst Episode Ever” was already worn out w/r/t The Simpsons before CBG ever even said it. It was a dig at the litany of usenet/webMB critics with an inflated regard for their own opinions. I still don’t think I’ve seen anything as bad as the first “bad” season… Was it only season 3 or 4? Where suddenly every episode was sacharrine & moralist?
Anyway, I haven’t seen the episode yet, so I’ll shut up.
(Off to the Simpsons binary group to dl the episode. If it really is the worst episode ever, I wanna know about it…)
Harry Shearer is famous for his killer Tom Brokaw impression. (Ever listen to Le Show?) The problem is, it doesn’t come off as nicely in the context of The Simpsons, because what makes it funny on Harry’s show is the personal & “behind-the-scenes” approach.
Shearer’s Brokaw has consistently cracked me up – for almost, what, six years now?
Seriously. I thought tonight’s show was not too bad. I laughed at the shocks. I also laughed at “It’s every parent’s dream to outlive their children.” And a few other things.
If all you people are going to do is bitch and moan about how the Simpsons should be cancelled, stop watching it. Then the low ratings will cause it to be cancelled. Until then, stop whining. It’s like it’s become a race to see who can post the first complaint about the Simpsons each Sunday.
Wow, was I the only person who got the “Shock Sideshow Bob” gag as a link to the episode where the Simpsons went to Marvin Monroe’s place and shocked the hell out of each other?
Geez, and I thought there were some serious Simpson geeks on this board.
I like it. Definately not the best episode and not really laugh out loud funny but it was worth my time. And I also thought it was funny that they used Frank Grimes Jr. although wasn’t only a week or two ago that they referenced Frank Grimes? I bet that made them think to do this one.
Anyway, Frank Grimes was one of my favorite episodes ever. My friend (ahem, my friend who is incredibly lazy and acts every bit as stupid as Homer) used to call me Grimey. Now it’s kind of a running joke that we call each other Frank Grimes when one of us is acting uptight.
As for the rest of the episode, not bad. I will always love Sideshow Bob, but the shocking thing did get a little old like…the first time they did it. The stilt bit was hilarious, especially the cops on stilts. Homer has said the “outlive your kids” thing before. I can’t remember which episode it was but he thought he was going to die and he said “I’m not gonna live to see my kids die!!!” It was funny in this episode but I can’t respect it as much when it’s rehashed.
As for everybody complaining - it kinda gets old, and sometimes I want to tell you guys to shut up but you usually don’t complain about something [voluntary] unless you really love it.
The only thing that kind of set me off about this episode was Chief Wiggum saying “us pigs will find the killer.” I was waiting for the punchline and it never came. Now I hate cops as much as the next red blooded American but this was just a little too direct and not funny at all. I hope they don’t result to blatant insults in the midst of their death throws, that’s never been what the Simpsons have been about. It was much funnier when Wiggum was trying to catch up with Sideshow Bob in another episode and he said “Hey wait up! You have those huge feet and all I have are these little hooves!”
I actually liked it. Sure it wasn’t the best episode in the history of the show, but I laughed every couple of minutes. The “AAAAAA Sideshow Bob” followed by the “AAAAAA Bob” was a hysterical gag, and it was an all around funny episode.
I think people are looking for things to gripe about because it’s become trendoid to take the “I used to love this show and now it’s terrible” stance.
