Actually, we’ve been looking around for a 12-cup thermos
and couldn’t find any we liked, but this Cuisinart thing
seems to combine making coffee and keeping it hot.
Sounds like a great idea, since the normal burners just torch the coffee.
However comma, I had the DGB-500, with timer and grinder. Another great idea - fresh ground bean coffee ready and waiting in the morning. Unfortunately, the grinder is not adjustable - it more or less flaked the coffee slightly, leaving huge chunks of beans and whatnot, nowhere near fine enough. It also leaked badly, and sort of clumsy to use ergonomically. .02c
My dad has the same coffee maker as Common Tater, but he didn’t have any problems with leaks. My sister got the upgraded version with thermal carafe and she loves it. I’m assuming that the thermal carafe in the model that you’re looking at would work just as well. If you have the money, consider getting the grind and brew. Freshly ground beans really do make for better coffee.
Late last night I saw a user’s review of the DGB-500and it was an utter horror story. I was too bleary-eyed to post it here, and now I can’t find it. Several other bad reviews are out there as well.
Glad you were able to return your model, Common Tater*.
So, maybe I’ll keep things simple and get the 12-cupper in the OP.
Long ago, we had a standalone grinder, and found that one of the drawbacks of grinding your own beans is the noise. We have a smallish ranch, and when I did it in the morning, it’d wake my wife up and vice versa.
*The wordplay of your name just struck me. It was funny enough to make me laugh. Thanks.
