Diabolically? With Infernal Devices?
BBC is broadcasting a live press conference by some official. He’s saying the shooting toll was 70. A double report accounted for it being 71 earlier.
The Aurora police chief has been speaking. I’m favorably impressed with him. He seems very professional.
the gov. of colorado and the police chief are giving a press conference/update.
the chief is being very careful about what he says about the suspect.
the victims have been taken from the theatre and they are working with the families. names will be given out later tonight.
The one thing that really pissed me off about the coverage today was a bald-headed Homeland Security guy on CNN this afternoon. When they were showing the ladder truck outside the shooter’s apartment window and the local cops sticking cameras in the apartment on the end of long poles, the DHS guy was saying (paraphrasing) “I’ve been talking to my FBI guys on the scene, and there are no booby traps in the apartment, but the local goobers run the crime scene and they have to convince themselves of that. They aren’t listening to the real authorities.”
Within the hour, they were reporting that the apartment was full of traps that were set up to kill as many people as possible. The shooter left the front door ajar and turned up some techno tunes way high just as he left for the theater, trying to lure in a neighbor to turn it down. Instead, they called the cops, who put the pieces together and evacuated the building.
Fuck you, DHS douchebag.
Is that from an English speaking news source, or a translation?
Isn’t he dead
You guys lost me on that.
You’re asking yourself?
To me it seems he was trying to imitate Bane, what with the mask and all.
And yes, I realize Bane doesn’t wear a gas mask, per se, but that seems to be the effect he was going for.
I’m wondering if the Bane look was just a coincidence. Maybe the gas mask was used simply because he was setting off gas.
I’m going to go with the simplest explanation here. The gas mask was probably to protect him form the tear gas. Not everything is symbolic.
I just finished watching the news. A whole hour of this, not counting weather and sports. Jesus, didn’t anything else happen in the world? Anywhere?
And the big question being asked: Does this mean we should put metal detectors in all public places? WTF?? Why are they acting like this is the first mass shooting that ever happened? There’ve been plenty of worse mass shootings: Virginia Tech, Luby’s in Texas, Charles Whitman way back in 1966… Nothing was said about metal detectors everywhere then. What makes this tragedy any different?
Look, as long as NRA types are going to insist on guns for everybody whether they want them or not, this kind of stuff is going to happen again and again. So stop acting so shocked when it does.
I see your Louie Gohmert, and raise you a Rick Warren. It happened because we teach evolution.
The less there is to report, the more stupid stuff people say on the air. We don’t know very much about what happened or why this guy did it, so people who have to fill airtime are wasting it with talk about what military members in the theater might have done or where metal detectors might go and they’re running computer simulations of how the attack might have gone. When you see a lot of commentary like this, it’s a strong hint they have very little to report and you can change the channel or turn off the set for a while. There’s no reason for people to subject themselves to hours of this stuff.
Thank goodness Obama invited this “moderate” to his inauguration. Gohmert and Warren are both disgraces.
More from the Twitterverse: Anderson Cooper has the right idea. Let’s not this fucker the fame he wants.
Meh, he’s not Voldemort. I don’t really see any advantage in not using his name as frequently as is natural.
(in anycase, he’ll probably get some nickname from the Press, as seems to be the case with these shootings, which is probably what people will remember.).
Bold prediction…shooter recently messed with his antidepressant dosage.
I blame Andy Warhol.
I haven’t read replies but my random thoughts ie beyond the obvious like how horrible it is and how he deserves to die slowly in a dark damp cell:
-
how flimsy are these emergency doors that he can just kick one open? How about they start making it std practice to put door stops on the other side or something?
-
I read that hundreds of police offiers swarmed on this place after initial reports. I don’t know how many are on the force but that sounds like a VERY high percentage and a ridiculous overkill. But this is nothing new for cops. Mostly nothing happens so when something does, they all “flock” like ants at a picnic. Hello yahoos, do you realize the open invitation this gives other criminals? Maybe a dozen or so is plenty and the rest of you should keep monitoring the rest of the city?
-
even if we forego the rare danger of something like this, what kind of brain-dead loser brings a 3 mo old child to the theater - a midnight showing no less? I’m all for making this illegal.
-
speaking of idiotic, why do they rush to get some meaningless token statement from the President about stuff like this? Why the frick do we care what Obama (or Romney for that matter) think about this? And did you really expect anything other than a predictable “it’s a terrible tragedy let’s keep the families in our thoughts blah blah blah” - their statements about this are about as interesting as statements from Lance Armstrong or Oprah Winfrey. ie not in the slightest.
-
the last thing this POS should get is ANY attention. I don’t give a damn what his motive was. I don’t want to see a single quote from him - ever. Like most sub-humans of this ilk, he’s an attention whore and therefore it’s the last thing he should get. Lock him away, better yet shoot him down, and let’s focus on the helping the families through this and improving security measures in whatever way we can.

wtf is it with Denver? First Colombine and now this? Do they need to check the water?
