On MSN they had this. They have these about once a week and they always include “facts” that are actually false.
Todays included:
The quack of a duck does not echo, and no one knows why.
Some newbie always comes on the SDMB and asks about this. We know this myth has been busted!.
Redheads don’t go gray
Bullshit! Both I and my brother have red hair and both of us have grey hair. I’m getting grey wings and Pauls previously bright red chest hair is entirely grey and his head is peppered with grey hair.
Pretty pathetic for a news organization to present B.S. as fact, isn’t it? :smack:
The “fact” about ducks’ quacks not echoing is always followed by “and nobody knows why.” I don’t know why.
One time my sister and I, tired of all these fake facts lists being passed off as true, made up our own list of false facts. (We even enlisted the help of a third person, a friend of mine.) I emailed it to my mom without telling her that it wasn’t true, or the origin of the list. My mother ended up emailing it to several of her email contacts (including my sister!) before my sister and I let her in on the joke.
We’ve done “let’s make up fact factoids” here on the Dope a time or three. It’s always fun. And since we’re now Googlable, gosh knows how many of them have since been re-cited into respectability.
