15 miles

After spending the whole holiday with my wife’s family, I came home and put on the running shoes.

I ran 15 miles over hilly terrain in two hours 15 minutes and 18 seconds.

Better still, I didn’t wake up a cripple this morning. I feel fine.

The Marine Corps Marathon is on October 28th, and I feel ready to go now.

The only downside to all this running that I’ve noticed, is that I’m losing weight and upper body strength no matter how much I eat or workout. 215 is my perfect weight, and this summer I’ve dropped to 190.

This also sucks because if I lose any more weight, I’ll no longer run the marathon in the “Clydesdale” division, but get lumped in with the 110 pound Kenyans.

Hmmm. Just poked around the 2000 marathon results. I couldn’t find anything to search out just Clydesdale results. Have you got a shot?

I train in a group with a fellow who just won his division at the Suzuki Rock & Roll marathon in June. He’s in the 75-79 division and he ran a 4:19. (sheesh, he’s got 50 years on me and he smokes me by 4 minutes)

His statement is that if you train smart, eat well, rest & live long enough, you might win something.

I’m hoping I live long enough & run long enough to start gathering some hardware. I’m not tempted to become an “Athena”, though. Although if it helps…

Glad to hear you had a great run. What a feeling.

Wow, I’m impressed.

Good luck with your weight, and the marathon.

Scylla, I’m thinking if you sit around for a few hours pounding down junk food and writing up the next installment of “Ewes Sluts” it would benefit us all.

Do they give you Budweiser at the waterstations if you’re in the Clydesdales division?

I am so jealous Scylla. I am hoping to be up to running the Marine Corps Marathon in a couple of years. (I want to really run it, not just finish it.) Right now I can only do about 20-25 miles a week.

For ideas about your weight/eating I would recommend going to the message board at http://www.kicksports.com . They have some very experienced runners there who give pretty good advice. I know I have plugged that site a couple of times. But really, it is the very best running site I have ever found. There are a number of people there who are going to be at the Marine Corps Marathon.
