There is the little padlock. There is an Orange envelope that means New Posts, there is a grey one that means No New Posts, then there are orange and grey envelopes with red "H"s on them. They are supposed to mean 15 Posts. Does this mean fifteen posts from ME? I see many threads with hundreds of posts, and none of them have the “H” on them. I have never seen an “H” envelope. Is this a feature that is not being used, or does the “H” mean that I have posted 15 times?
If it does indicate that I have posted 15 times in that thread, is it a LIMIT? Does it mean that I cannot post in that thread again? I was going to respond to a test thread 15 times to see what would happen. But I figured I would just ask instead.
I have never seen a “15 new posts” envelope, although that’s what I take it to mean. I have seen new threads with more than 15 posts (Satan’s chewing of Daniel today being an example) and they are without the icon. Conclusion: it isn’t working. The red envelope is also a little unreliable. If I look in ATMB first, the redness factor is not reliable in subsequent fora. I go by the time I think I was last around to sus out what I have seen and what I have not. My guess is that vB doesn’t always behave like you (and perhaps they) would expect. It is however a lot more robust than the old boards.
In some installations of vB, any thread with more than 15 posts in it in a short amount of time – one that’s getting a lot of play – is represented by a flaming folder.
We have disabled that function, so it doesn’t matter how many posts a thread contains, they look much the same.
You may reply as much as is necessary.
Once again, it’s not about the numbers, it’s about the CONTENT. Who cares about anything else?
