17 year old girl pushes bear off a wall

…and gets away with it.
She was protecting her dogs who were in the process of objecting to the bear’s(and her cubs) presence.

She used her bare hands.

She is really lucky. I’ve seen black bears toss full 45 gal drums of diesel fuel around like they were empty.

Yeah. Looked like Mama Bear was distracted and off balance, didn’t see her coming.

The girl and the dogs barely survived.

I am surprised it tipped over so easily. It was kind of funny if you don’t think about a bear’s strength.

I think most bears are aware that humans (and to some extent their dogs) present some hazard.

It might be a combination of the girl’s confidence/lack of displayed fear AND the group of dogs that gave the bear the idea that confrontation was not a good idea. From our perspective, it’s a young girl fending off a bear. From the bear’s perspective, it might have been an adult human and several dog allies outnumbering said bear.

Also, the bear might not have been particularly hungry, or not felt very threatened, and decided that pushing the issue wasn’t worth the bother. Most wild animals are not really looking for a fight, after all. That’s why making noise works to “scare off” a bear - the bear loses all stealth and clearly those potentially-hazardous humans are on alert so why bother, go somewhere else with less noise and less chance of those bang-sticks that humans sometimes have.

But yeah, not a recommended move and I’m glad injuries to all parties were not more than minor.

There’s always Brazilian jiu jitsu…

She couldn’t bear to see her dogs get hurt, so she decided to bear down and do something.

Good thing there wasn’t a grizzly result.

the bear was distracted by having one of the dogs dangling from its claw. she had caught one of the dogs by the vest/sweater.

the teen went down and grabbed the dog then pushed up and pushed the bear. she had momentum and adrenaline fuels strength when she pushed the bear. the bear on the wall was basically on a balance beam and i"m reckoning, that the bear was not gymnast.

I needed a double take to see the small dog caught in the bear’s paw by its vest. The girl got there just in time. If the bear didn’t have that dog its paw would be free and it could’ve swiped at the girl instead. The girl is very fortunate and it all worked out.

Nobody has mentioned yet that there were two bear cubs with the (presumed) mama bear. A mama bear with her cubs nearby is usually especially protective.

This is proof that, on occasion, it is better to be lucky than good.

I was wondering where this happened — This happened in Bradbury CA. Bradbury is in SoCal, in the San Gabriel Valley of LA County. It’s just north of Duarte, Azusa, and Arcadia.

Bradbury is in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, near the Angeles National Forest.

So, it’s not exactly way out in the boonies. It’s in a well populated area.

We’ve had bears get into our cars twice now. Little scratched paint and muddy foot prints but otherwise no damage. A little scary when you go out to check out the cars (they are hard to see into). When standing on the deck, before checking the cars out, I fired a round into the ground to make some noise and check if anything moved in the cars.

Neighbor down the road had his broken into also. We have a curious and smart bear running around here.

If the car is locked, they may just put off the door handle. Or so I’ve been told.

Last summer I saw a bear walking down the sidewalk in Breckenridge CO. I passed him in my car and stopped to warn a person that was walking towards the bear.

A woman here in Colorado was attacked and killed by a Black Bear (with cubs) a couple of weeks ago.

“If you ever see me fighting in the forest with a grizzly bear, HELP THE BEAR!”

yes, the cubs were cute. they ran at the first bark and nearly fell off the wall. if it hadn’t been for the cubs, i believe the bear would have left. from mama bear’s perspective she was saving her cubs from the scary barky things,

it is a good thing she didn’t hop off the wall into the yard.

Yeah, the mama bear just minded her (and her kids’) business, before the dog attacked her. Without the latter, there would have been no altercation, but a super cute video, anyway.
