You’re using a definition that I’m not finding anywhere else. Where do you find your definition of “ally” such that it requires a treaty of alliance, and why should that definition be the controlling one in this conversation, instead of the dictionary.com definition of “a person, group, or nation that is associated with another or others for some common cause or purpose”?
Edit: okay, a bit of googling shows that your definition appears in international law–I’ll concede the definition point, and refer you back to my post inviting you to choose words like BFF, chum, mate, pals, etc. to describe the relationship between the EU and Israel, as distinct from the relationship between the EU and Hamas.
On further thought, while that definition appeared in a free online legal dictionary, you’re right that the US has designated Israel as a “Major non-NATO Ally” but has no treaty for mutual defense. If the US calls Israel its ally in an official state designation, that’s gonna trump any free online legal dictionary I can find, and definitely trump any dude on a messageboard who suggests it’s an incorrect designation because of his own preferred definition of “ally.”
I’ve been hearing for years that the ME doesn’t care about Palestine or Palestinians except as pawns in their little game of “let’s hate Israel.” The ME would stomp their Palestinian “brothers” out of existence if there were no Israel.
It is interesting how western media care more about a few kids dying in Gaza than 18K Palestinians dying somewhere else. Maybe those Palestinians in Syria need to declare a holy genocide war against Syria and then we’ll be outraged by every hangnail they suffer from. For some bizarro reason.
Perhaps people pay more attention to Israel for a similar reason to why the OP is focused on a piddling 18,000 starving people in Syria instead of some of the actual major humanitarian crises that are occurring today.
I can’t believe I am breaking my personal rule that I won’t participate in Pit threads as I prefer debate and discussion to name calling, but since I followed this in when it was somewhere else I suppose I can forgive myself.
Terr, you obviously have a skewed view of the world, where everyone hates Israel and is secretly antisemitic.
I don’t know how you can fail to consider the US an ally of Israel in virtually every way. Semantics be damned. If you live in the US you MUST be aware that there are huge swaths of the non-jewish population (especially conservatives of various stripes) who 100% back Israel. If you don’t live in the US, you can probably see them from wherever you are, just look this way.
I disengaged in a GD thread with you because you completely ignored all my points and just kept hammering on Israel’s right to defend itself, a point I never disputed. I repeatedly made the argument that both sides were guilty of acting in bad faith, and your response was, without fail, that Israel couldn’t ignore the rocket attacks.
Arguing with you was like arguing with a pre-recorded message.
Yeah, but those don’t offer as much opportunity for sneering digs at the Nazi leftist pinko-Commie Eurotrash libtards and their proxies on this message board, which are evidently Terr’s sole raison d’être.
This. It’s not that fucking complicated. If Stephen Harper decided to feed his uncle to a pack of dogs there would probably be a stronger reaction than Kim Jong-un got, too. But that’s because we all hate Canada. They’re controlling Hollywood with all their actors and locations pretending to be American.
Yeah, most Europeans are doing that.
Terr, if it looked for a second like you actually gave a shit about starving Palestinians, I might be more sympathetic. But you just want to use them to attempt to score cheap points to prove your view of the world is accurate. It makes you look like a dick.
Because the Jews have always had a great time in Europe. The height of their popularity peaked in the 1940’s, after which their popularity waned tremendously. Disappointed at no longer being so popular, they felt the need to found their own country in the Middle East,… and well, here we are again.
Personally, I blame the Europeans for everything that is happening in the ME. They should fix it or shut the fuck up about it.
Your sarcasm comes through loud and clear. Your actual point, however, is a bit unclear. Are you suggesting that indeed everyone in Europe is anti-semitic? that opposition to Israel’s military tactics is antisemitic? That Europeans have no right to complain about the actions of anyone who’s Jewish? Because all of those suggestions would be insane, but I can’t figure out what actual point you’re making.
It is not semantics. There is no alliance treaty between two countries. And can you point out the post in which I said I don’t consider the US an ally of Israel? I definitely do not consider EU or individual European countries allies of Israel, that’s true.
