1960s German car: Taurus

What German carmaker made a model called the Taurus in the 1960s?

.

Do you mean the Ford Taunus? Closely related to the British Ford Cortina.

I thought Ford didn’t make the Taurus until the '80s.

This car appears in a 1969 German textbook. You can only see part of the rear end, and it has the chrome treatment that was common back then. The individual chrome letters spell ‘T-A-U-R-U-S’. I can’t make out the small chrome script badge on the right side.

Not “Taurus”, Taunus with an N. A big-selling car in Europe from the '50s through to the '80s.

Are you absolutely certain you’re seeing a letter “R” rather than a letter “N”? (If they happen to be in lower case, they’re really easy to confuse.) Here’s some info on the Taunus, which was made by Ford of Germany in the time frame you mention.

Like this?

I belive that the taunus came with a V4 engine-can anyone confirm?

It’s an ‘N’!

It is indeed a Taunus. The photo is large enough, but a bit grainy. I mis-read. It looks like the one in Ximenean’s link, above; except the one in the book has a decorative chrome panel on the back.

Ximenean: Now that I look back at post #2, I see you did type ‘Taunus’. Sorry for mis-reading.

Thanks, everyone.

Yes. Read the link I posted above.

The 1970s Taunus models look very much like what was sold in Australia as the Cortina.

By 1976 they look pretty much identical to the Cortina sold by Ford (UK). Earlier models had also used the 'Tina name in England and the brand continued to be used until the 1980s.
