I have a 1995 Crown Victoria that when the flashers are turned on only the front lights flash. The rear lights do not. The rear lights work with brakes and turn signals however. I read the exchange between Greasy-Jack and Astro regarding bypassing the LCM with a traditional flasher. However, that involved using LED bulbs. Do you know if the same “surgery” would solve my problem? If you are not sure, do you know who I can ask? Thanks
The thing with the LED bulbs is that some car flashers are designed in such a way that they don’t flash unless there’s a certain amount of current flowing through them. So when a bulb burns out, the current passing through the flasher drops and it stops flashing, and the driver knows he’s got a bulb out. The trouble is that LED’s draw a lot less current and so some older flashers won’t flash with them installed. On most cars, this isn’t a big deal because a newer flasher is a $5 part, but the Crown Vics have the flasher integrated into the lighting control module, which are expensive (and I don’t know if LED-compatible ones are even sold). So the fix that Crown Vic enthusiasts have come up with is an easy rewire that makes it so the LCM uses an external flasher instead of the one in the module.
Now, I don’t completely recall the old thread, but I think the OP was having a problem where none of his lights were flashing at all, suggesting all that was wrong with his LCM was the flasher. I suggested the above fix as a way of only having to buy a $5 flasher instead of an expensive LCM. But in your case, since some of the lights are blinking, I think it’s probably something other than the flasher.
It might be worth asking this question at one of the Crown Vic forums where the real fanatics hang out-- there might still be some way of repairing instead of replacing your LCM. I think www.crownvic.net is the most active one.
Upon reading the title of this thread in a hurry, did anyone else think that Queen Victoria was quite kinky?

It’s a virtual certainty that the problem is a faulty multi-function switch. I can’t imagine anything short of replacing it being the fix.
Why would the multi-function switch cause only the rear lights not to flash?
Because it incorporates the turn signal switch and the hazard lights switch. It’s the only place in the wiring diagram where the front lights could be separated from the rear lights.
