2, Count 'em TWO!

Jobs listed under “Office/clerical” in my Sunday paper. Largest city in the state, ftr.

Only confirms my instinct to go back to school for the duration (at the least keep busy and the most improve my odds for employment later).

What’s it like where you are? As bad as this?

First thought - Yes, it’s bad here.
Second thought - people still advertise jobs in the newspaper? Around here, it’s all about Monster, craigslist or word of mouth.

Today, the entire classified section of a major Seattle daily newspaper was a bit under 2 pages. I remember when the classifieds were many pages and were a section of the paper itself.

We ran an ad last Monday for a secretary job in my office. We’re a non-profit with zero prestige, embarassingly low pay, and damn few benefits…and I’ve got over 100 resumes sitting on my desk. Skimming through some of them…I see at least two licensed attorneys and several people with graduate degrees in entirely non-related fields. This is for a gig that will pay about $20K/year.

Yeah, the job market is FUBAR.

2, count’em, TWO job ads! Ah Ah Ah!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. But yeah, my SO is looking to find a better job and there is little to nothing out there. We count ourselves lucky he has a job at all because it is really a grim market out there right now.
