What's the best way to look for hourly jobs (not gigs or careers) online these days?

I’m finding myself looking for possibly a part-time weekend or more hourly job to supplement my income (FT job and very small businesses). Not really interested in gigs for many reasons, as I’m well-informed on those. Looking for little responsibility, show up and put in my time and get paid. Maybe more than one, just need some extra cashflow without expenses and liability.

It’s been awhile since I’ve looked. Haven’t seen a print classified section in years. I remembered a site from the last time I looked (Snagajob), but the results are pretty poor and filled with ads/scams. Should I look on Craigslist? Just go on the websites of all the stores/restaurants/warehouses in my area?

I sometimes see those jobs in my local newspaper, especially on Saturdays. It’s probably worth the 10 minutes it takes to look through them.

Networking is a possibility–talk to the people you know well, mention it on social media.

Around here, everywhere that is hiring has a “now hiring” sign outside.

If you want to work in a specific area close to your home, and have some places where you’d like to work, there’s no problem with physically going into the place and asking if they are hiring.

That might work.

Sort of related was a recent story in The New York Times about how some retirees were taking jobs with airline or hotel companies and working just the minimum number of hours to qualify for the discounts. You might think the airline or hotel company would find it a pain to have a number of very part-time employees but they appreciate that this crowd is reliable.

So a business in your area might want to hire you for a limited number of hours on weekends.

Thanks for the replies. OT came back at my “day job” and will soon be mandatory. So I pretty much just grinded through the several weeks of reduced pay, then worked OT to somewhat catchup. I had some co-workers who did similar jobs on the opposite schedule and then quit after a few weeks. I was prepared to do similar but that window passed. I think I’ll probably try my hand at a few gigs just to have something flexible to fill in while I’m working 55-60 hours one week and 40 the next.

If you are close enough, try walking in to various restaurants and asking if they are hiring. If you are too far away for that to be convenient, call.

Just drive down roads filled with businesses on both sides and look for signs of hiring.
