2 Nights in Yakima - any recommendations?

As I mentioned a few months ago in my thread about TSA screenings at small airports, I’m flying to Yakima, WA next month for a pretty big indy wrestling show at the Sundome. I’ll be arriving on a Thursday afternoon, checking into the Red Lion, going to the show on Friday night, and flying back to Seattle on Saturday afternoon.

I have never been to Yakima. By all accounts, it is a sour and spent used-to-be of a town with nothing in particular to recommend it, and I’d probably never go there if it weren’t for this show, but I figure there has to be SOMETHING worth seeing or doing in my spare time while I’m there.

Considering that I won’t have a car and will probably be relying on Uber to get anywhere not within walking distance of my hotel or the venue, can anyone who’s familiar with the area recommend any unique or must-try restaurants, or an attraction that might take up my spare afternoons/evening?

Do you like beer? Bale Breaker has fantastic beers and is a pretty location.

There’s a big fresh hops festival in Yakima on October 7 that is a lot of fun. Even if you aren’t in town for that, no ost breweries will be pouring fresh hop beers for the next couple months.

Been there. Agree. Also, there are a lot of good wineries in the general area, but you’d probably need a car.

I agree with the OP that the town itself doesn’t have much appeal. Maybe others have found something.

I’m mostly sober for health reasons these days, although I did just find out that one of my favorite hard cider brands has a taphouse in the city so I may pop in there.

If there’s not much to do in town besides drink, are there any restaurants (either mom & pop fast food or sit-down) that are really worth a visit?
