Pacific Northwest Dopefest?

How long has it been since we did one of these?

A long time, I think. The only one I’ve ever attended was one when Swampbear came up from Georgia and a bunch of us met him up in Seattle to spend the day.

We did the Seattle Underground tour and then went to a restaurant for dinner and conversation. We had a great time. There were several of us PNW Dopers there, and one couple even drove up from Oregon.

I’d be up for one before the summer’s out. (Preferably not from Aug 30-Sep 6, I’m going fishing.)

Anybody else?

I don’t have a car, so I could only attend if it took place in downtown Seattle–but I would indeed do so.

When works best for you?

Anytime. I’m not employed and have no travel plans till at least September.

Another vote for carless in Seattle and preferably before the mid/end of September.

And not August 8th or 9th because I’m going to a wedding.

That’d be handy-dander, salamander!

The vote so far is “somewhere in Seattle.” The above dates are available. Anyone else?

Are you talking about a PNW Dopefest or just a Seattle Dopefest?

I’m just tallying votes. Last PNW Dopefest I went to was in Centralia (easier for Oregonians to get there).

Hey, I have to drive over 100 miles to get to Seattle! You can do it!

I might be good for a meet up.

I’m new here. What happens when “real life” and cyberspace collide? is it fun, awkward, intimidating? Is there beer?

Speaking from my own experience, it was a lot of fun. I did not experience any awkwardness. There was plenty of beer, plenty of food, and plenty of conversation.

Thank the gods you didn’t mention the goat/straw initiation! Or the squid! No mention of those should appear in the thread, lets the initiate runs off screaming!

You know, I’ve been meaning to open up Rockhoppers again for a dopefest. We’re walking distance from the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry, on Whidbey Island north of Seattle. I know it’s a hike for Seattle people, but you could plan a day on the island…

We’ve got a beer & wine license, live music on Saturday, food, free wi-fi, and it’s a pretty cool place.

Here’s our Saturday lineup for the next few months:

July 19: Anthony Easterwood – country music
July 26: Cassandra Roberston – folk music
August 2: Jewbilee, then Midnight Hour – Jewish funk, then blues
August 9: Open
August 16: Michael Morales – folk music
August 23: Deja Blues – blues piano & guitar

I recommend August 16th – Michael is great, and the Island County fair is that weekend. You could come early to see the fair, then head to Rockhoppers for the music. But I’m open to any date – including other than Saturday.

Dopers are always welcome – free coffee, just say “Cecil sent me”.

I’m new to these parts too,and would love to meet up. But I just got a new job and would need to know in advance to ask for the time off. So if I have enough advance warning, I’ll be there.

Sundays are better for me than Saturdays; on Saturdays, I work until 4.

On Sunday we have a jazz jam session from 2:30 to around 4 or 5. Very cool. Our ‘official’ hours on Sunday are 8-6, but I can stay open until 11pm, no problem. Being the owner gives me some privileges re: hours. I just have to work them.
