Anybody up round these parts know of one coming up? And, since searches thru the site have pointed to a big ol’ no, maybe planning one is possible…thoughts, I say! I’ve never been to one (see join date) and it sounds like high quality enjoyment.
Well, there was talk of a West Coast Dopefest, but much piddling pretty much killed that, it seems. Quite frustrating.
That said, I know there’s several of us BADs (Bay area Dopers) who’re usually willing to grab dinner & a drink or something.
We just had one in Oakland about a month (?) ago, but I’d be willing to go to SF for another…
As always, psycat and I will try our best to make it.
Generally the best way to go about these things is to pick a date and a place yourself and stick with it if the majority of people can attend. Otherwise you find people will go back and forth for a month and then it will never happen.
I would also like to attend if I can.

I’m in. Who’s organizing? Is it possible to get a reservation this time out? The last oen I didn’t really get to interact with too many Dopers. Also count the wife in she really enjoyed the last one.
I’ve been meaning to visit the folks sometime this summer, so if the right weekend presents itself, I’m interested.
How about a summer picnic Dopefest? Crissy Field or Golden Gate Park maybe?

Also, Golden Gate Park sounds nice. We could avoid the heinous overcrowding at decent bars on the weekends and drink Pimms. Of course, we could also get tickets for smoking cigarettes. Unless we go to a golf course. I hate that law.
So…in the interest of pushing the whole shebang along: Who’s be into a potluck weekend picnic? Golden Gate Park, most likely.
Hey! Perfect timing. I will be moving out to the Bay Area the first week in July. I would love to meet some BADs! I have spent the past 2 years being a MAD (Mid-Atlantic Doper) and am looking forward to being a BAD! 
p.s. At first, we’ll be in the Fairfield/Vacaville area, since my boyfriend is at Travis AFB there. Anyone else from that area?
Oh one more thing. I know it’s over a month and a half away, but it would be cool if we could plan something for July, so I could attend. 
How accessible is GGP by public transportation, particularly BART? I think the number one rule in a Bay Area Dopefest is it should be not much more than 2 or 3 blocks from a BART station.
I’m not that familiar with BART locations myself though.
It should be under 21 friendly, which the park definitely is.
Personally I’d prefer something indoors, or outdoors, but with drinks and food being served and clean bathrooms, etc., but that doesn’t mean we won’t show up if a picnic is what the majority of people are down with. Does someone want to start suggesting dates? July? Saturdays are best, I think, especially for people coming from a distance, but Friday nights might be doable for most people as well.
How about July 9th. And I second the clean bathroom /BART accessible thing.
Hey nyctea scandiaca, do you play Warcraft? I saw someone named “nyctea” on a message board recently and I’ve never seen that handle used before.
I don’t know if anyone would be up for it, but would anyone like to possibly do AIDS Walk with me (and help raise money for AIDS research!), then get some lunch afterward? I find that walking the 6 miles with someone interesting to talk to is a nice way to get to know that person.
AIDS Walk S.F. takes place on Sunday, July 17 and it usually starts around 10am.
If not, we could always go to dinner afterward instead. I’ve never been to a Dope Fest so I don’t know the usual format.

Alright. Golden Gate Park is not terribly BART accessible. You’re basically dealing with downtown or the mission from BART, and GGP would necessitate a 20 minute MUNI ride down Fulton or Hayes. Problem is, far as parks & under 21 possibilities, downtown & the mission are pretty much out. I live right by the park, so I was just being greedy. Those coming from the North would have an easy time, if they drove, whereas East & South Bayers would have a little more traveling. Any other location ideas? I just figured that a nice outdoorsy place would be a good place to meet. Of course, bars/restaurants also wonderful. I’ve never been involved in any of these, so I"m just winging it.
