Pacific Northwest Dopefest?

I don’t know if I can make it; I’m doing a lot of weekend and evening teaching right now, then I’m in and out of the area through mid-September.

This Oregon doper loves the idea, but I don’t think I’ll be able to make it up to Seattle in August. Maybe September, but I’m going to be all the eff over the country in August–I just don’t think I can fit in any more interstate travel!

Please note that I’m not trying to hijack the idea of a Seattle Dopefest, and if the location turns out to be somewhere downtown-friendly I’ll still make it if I can.

It’s just that I own a pretty cool coffeehouse which is a great location for a PNW dopefest, and want to host one even if only a few of you can make it.

I work in Belltown three days a week, and at the end of the day I head back north. I’d kind of like to do something downtown.

Which is not to belittle Danalan’s place. It’s a cozy venue with cool toys. I had no idea what I was doing, but I liked the Lethal Leporidae game. And it’s marginally closer to me.

So I guess OR is out of the question?

Depends. It’s not too far for me to go to Oregon. Seattle’s just one of the only votes so far. One time, as I might have said earlier, we met in Chehalis (about 82 miles from the Oregon border).

I’d kind of like to make it to the Dopefest!
I’m just here in University Place!

I have some vague, as yet unformed plans to go backpacking sometime around the middle or end of August in Washington (Olympic or Ranier), so if the timing and transportation works out I might attend, either Seattle or Portland.

I could do a Seattle-based Dopefest. If it’s a Saturday, I might have my almost-one-year-old in tow; my husband works Saturdays. But I might be able to procure a babysitter.

Sunday afternoons/evenings are also a baby-free possibility. I think I’m pretty open, date-wise.

Seattle or it’s environs is good for me.

So…?

Where is said coffee house?

I’m doing a play through the end of September, so don’t count on my availability. You’re all heartbroken, I’m sure.

It’s in Clinton, basically abeam Everett. There’s a ferry in Mukilteo.

I’m carless in Portland, so I probably couldn’t make any in Seattle. Pity.

Maybe you could hitch a ride with another Oregon Doper? Or you can take Amtrak for a little under $100 r/t. Or ride the Dog.

EDIT: Checked some fares: $32-$47 from Portland to Seattle on 2 August, $28-$47 returning on the 3rd.

Ok. I’m calling one.

Dopefest at Rockhoppers, August 16. It’s the weekend of the Island County Fair, so there’s more to do than just hang out at the coffeehouse. We have live music by Michael Morales at 8:00pm, and we’ll have some sort of special dinner serving at 6:00pm. You can watch video of Michael at Rockhopper’s here.

There are lots of games, art, food, and we serve beer & wine. Everyone with the Cecil Adams party gets $2.00 credit at the shop – that’s enough for coffee (free refills), juice, tea, a cookie, half a glass of wine, etc. You also get a 10% discount on art, and free cover for the music.

The dopefest will officially begin at 4:00pm, but we’re open from 8:00am until 10:00pm, and can stay open until 11:00pm if we like (but no later).

For those looking to take transit to the ferry, the Saturday bus service from Seattle involves taking the Sound Transit 511 to the Lynnwood Park & Ride (runs every 1/2 hour until 6:30pm, then hourly, $2.50), transferring to Community Transit 113 (runs every 1/2 hour until 6:15pm, then hourly), then taking the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry (runs every 1/2 hour, $3.95). You can easily walk up the hill from the ferry to Rockhoppers. Here’s a Google map of Clinton. Here is the Metro regional trip planner, to plan your round trip.

Let me know if you can make it, and if you need specific assistance or suggestions on what else to do on Whidbey. There is hourly Island Transit bus service to other areas on the island, it is free.

That is Tom Petty weekend at The Gorge. I’m new here anyways so it isn’t though I’ll be missed. Sounds like a cool place for a day or weekend trip but it seems a bit off the beaten path for most. I can’t make that Dopefest but I’ll definitely be out to Whidbey sometime this summer.

Yeah, can’t make it either. I have to take my daughter to UW-T for her math placement test AND it’s my Dad’s birthday.

Maybe next time…

I have to go to the work picnic - I’ve been wrangled into planning and hosting with the front office girl.
