No, I haven’t, so maybe I’m missing some deep personal grudge between the two of you. From an outside perspective, it’s still a randomly hostile response to a polite comment, in a thread filled with such posts. I’m just saying that maybe you guys should think on it. (Disclaimer: Not!Junior!Modding. Just thought that it might be helpful.)
I’ve been trying to figure out what to post, but fuck it. It ain’t worth it. It’s just damn depressing to see people dog moderators who, on the whole, have done a pretty good job about keeping us in the know on stuff. But the one time they say it’s not really worth knowing, the torches and pitchforks come out.

Hundreds? Really? I’d say my participation in threads about moderation used to be quite rare but have gotten more frequent of late. Is that a problem with me that warrants your seemingly unprovoked nastiness? If I am making polite inquiries (in the Pit, no less), and you are a mod, should you be showing your displeasure at being questioned in the manner that you have? Or do you have some personal axe to grind here? This is the thread for people to sharpen those, so why should you be any different.
You are keeping much closer track of me than you should, samclem. Do get another hobby. I did nothing wrong in this thread and was polite throughout. Too bad I can’t say the same for you. Never realized you paid this much attention to me and never paid one jot of attention to you. But I guess I should. Wow.
Even jackbooted Nazi thugs get the blues sometimes. Our mods work pretty damn hard and under what sometimes are unpleasant conditions and we’re not perfect machines. It can be very frustrating to be second guessed and endlessly carped at for doing what we do.
Do you consider, through any number of replies from any number of mods, that sustained suspicion that we are lying is a polite inquiry?
Wow, really? Hundreds? Are you sure you are not confusing her with someone else? **Rubystreak ** can bedevil a point sometimes, but I never noticed her as one with an ax to grind against the admins and mods. Are you sure you are not confusing her with someone else?
This thread is very surreal to me. **Wee Bairn ** is gone, a self-inflicted wound. I was just curious as to why and instead find a multi-person trainwreck. Q.E.D. goes off on a wrong tangent, making assumptions and then calling out **Tom ** for a simple post that makes perfect sense to me.
I can’t help but wonder what was so hard to understand that Cisco’s post simply did not raise the curiosity that Wee Bairn’s did. That is all **Tom ** really said in his post that set you off Q.E.D.

I understand that. Like I said before, I just wanted to try to make it clear that to people who AREN’T up on all that history, many of the posts in this thread (on both sides) make everyone involved look really bad. And by the very nature of the title, the mods’ ones are especially visible. One of them is a mod having a bad night. Several of them adds to your jackbooted Nazi image.

I never claimed that Wee Bairn bragged about creating socks on the SDMB. However,
I noted that he had talked about creating socks for malicious purposes. (That would tend to catch the eye of the staff.)
I then noted that his post was different in that significant way from Cisco’s post in which Cisco had made no such claim.
Q.E.D. jumped in with claims of “leaps of logic” and made a big deal about Hotmail accounts. I understand that Q.E.D. (and maybe some others might have been distracted by the fact that he mentioned using Hotmail. but I made no reference to it for a reason–it was irrelevant. I certainly did not misrepresent Wee Bairn’s post–although you seem to share Q.E.D.'s interest in misreading what I posted.
The discussion in the original thread involed interactive accounts on sites that are little more than a wide open message boards with pictures, particlularly when posters begin exchaning messages. While not meeting the strictest definition of sock puppet, a false account in such a situation is close enough to be directly analagous to a sock here, raising suspicions.
My first post was only intended to let Cisco know that there was a reason that we looked at Wee Bairn and not at him. My second post was just a response to Q.E.D.'s silly inaccurate complaint about leaps of logic.

What do you want from me, an apology that I asked the questions until I got answers that satisfied me? Nope, not gonna do it. There was an inordinate amount of impoliteness and hostility in this thread and the vast majority of it did NOT come from me-- it came from staff members. That’s just a fact. Maybe we should just let it lie with who was ruder here.

Your suspicions about why people want to know, which has been expressed by several mods, seems rather off the wall to me.
He never said anything about socks. He said hotmail accounts. You were quite clear in your posts that you were stating that WeeBairn admitted to sockery on the SDMB (bolding mine):

I really don’t mean to give the impression that I dislike the mods or have major problems with the moderation on this board. Seriously, I don’t. I had questions that were not at first being treated as legitimate questions and were not answered. Every time moderating questions are asked, the asker has to endure this even when the questions are completely valid. I wish these threads didn’t have to be in the Pit, so that the tone could not descend to the shitty levels they have in this thread.
