200,000 klicks to Mars.

Now that’s a close up. I guess that dark blur is the crater Spirit’s heading toward.

I can’t imagine the tension at mission control.

More NASA TV mirrors here

My other link is saturated. I got bumped from the stream and couldn’t get back in.

The top link from the page in my last post is the JPL link in AC’s 2nd post there, and seems to be good still. Currently showing the control room at JPL that is controlling the lander.

Anybody know if DirectTV carries NASA tv? That would rock.

2 Mins till stage separation, it’s very dramatic actually.

Ah crap, my 220 kbps stream was just downgraded to 34 kbps. Ugh. everyone looks like they are made from legos now.

That is incredible how they can remain in contact with the probe as it goes through the athmosphere. Defiantely a great improvement.

Hey AC which stream you using, that JPL link I posted is going strong at 220 kbps for me.

Atmosphere entered, parachute deployed. sweet

Wooohooo! They have a landed signal. They are bouncing!

Aarghhhhh!

They’ve touched down, apparently, but now have been about 10 minutes since they’ve heard anything. And I keep getting bumped off the live feeds, or the sound quits.

Oh, wait, now they’re saying they’ve got data that MAY indicate reception post-landing, and it will be 4 more minutes before they know.

This is nerve-wracking.

How odd. I’m using the JPL feed as well, so I refreshed the input and it’s back to 220. I was scared to try during the landing in case I missed something.

Thanks!

Waiting for confermation that it survived the bouncing.

Talk dammit.

its down, hell yeah

Hot damn! Lock, lock, lock. And we get to do this all over again in 21 days. My poor ticker.

Base side down, so it landed right side up.

 I’m so happy.

Sweet, deflate airbags, lets see some pictures.

And just to show I am giant a geek, sittin’ around on Sat night, watching the Mars lander, anybody notice the Sun flat panels in the control center. They got some nice equiptment.

45 mins to deflate, ~15 to open petals.

What a joy that NASA TV is. I loved how they let us monitor the Flight comm channel… I felt like I was in the room with them.

Yep, NASA TV rocks, I’m kinda sorry they are wrapping up the coverage for the night.

News briefing coming up though.

Three weeks till the next one. Hope there’s some good stuff from Spirit
in the mean time.

Whoohoo! I thought I was the only one following this story. Let’s hope there’s evidence of (more) intelligent life.

I ran across the nasa TV link on google and logged on just as they said they had a signal.

When is the news briefing? There was a blurb on MSNBC but I havn’t seen anything on CNN yet (I might’ve missed it, though).

The briefing is on right now. So far it’s just (well deserved) back-slapping and PR. No technical updates yet.
