2000 Taxes (USA)

Because MommyX2 and I got our act together in 2001, financially speaking, it was very easy to claim medical expenses on our itemized return. This saved us money. But because we did not have our act so together in 2000, it was not nearly as easy and so we did not claim any expenses for 2000. :smack:

My question is this: Is it possible to still file an amended 2000 return and claim whatever expenses possible? (Assuming I go through all the records and old checks, etc). And get another refund?

When I saw how much money we saved, I got to thinking about 2000, just not very fast of course. And I don’t know that we’ll qualify, althogh, I would be surprised if we couldn’t. Oh, and I’m using Turbo Tax.

You should still be able to file an amended return. An error in claiming deductions is one of the reasons the IRS specifically mentions for filing an amended return.

Topic 308 - Amended Returns contains a general outline of the procdure and links to the necessary forms. You are, however, running out of time. The limit on amendments reaches back only three years.
