What’s with the massive resurrection of posts from 2003? Is there something going on that is suddenly making them easy to find?
Or am I alone in noticing this, perhaps or suffering under some form of confirmation bias?
(Yes, I know you haven’t had time to respond yet. I just realized I forgot a sentence.)
Yes, you’re alone in noticing this, the rest of us are Zombies!
Isn’t the consensus answer “Since the threads have been Googleable, non-Dopers have find them, don’t notice the date and resurrect them with a new post”? or
It’s the Zombie Apocalypse!
I’ve not noticed any such thing.
Examples?
In the year 2003
If Dopers are all zombies
If BigT can survive
He may find…
We’ve had a bunch of zombie threads bumped recently. The year is a coincidence, and some of them were even older than 2003. Most of them were bumped by newbies, and I’m sure they just found them through google.
I hadn’t noticed, and I think I would have.
If you say you didn’t notice, then I know I must’ve been imagining it.
Well, the attention-grabbing one is “So it’s fucking war then?”
Really, could you link to at least two? I tend to notice zombie “incept dates” as often as I notice they’re zombies.
In favor of honesty, I have occasionally bumped one of my old threads just to see if it might work a second time. And more often I have even linked to one of them in a new thread, just to play by the rules.
But lately, I would say the 1999, 2000, and 2001 period is ahead in the zombieland arena.
If I find them again. I didn’t bookmark them or anything, and I really don’t remember the topics. It just seems like the last five zombies I’ve opened were started in 2003. (Though I may have had a couple others in between)
That’s what I thought before those five in a row.
Oh, and note my previous post was not sarcasm. I seriously do think you would notice. You seem to have a thing for dates.
That was the first one I noticed. I don’t remember the others in order, so I’ll just list off the ones I find in the next little bit:
In my search I did notice a few other zombies not based in 2003 that I hadn’t clicked on, so it is just coincidence. (Thanks, Polerius, for your zombie detecting plugin. Without it, I’d be having to click on every thread I’ve already opened to see if it was one of the ones.)
I didn’t think it was sarcasm, and I’m flattered that you’ve noticed my thing for dates and old threads and such.
I had noticed these titles in the “New Posts” listings, (which is how I make my way through new stuff), but hadn’t thought to investigate them, so I wasn’t aware of their zombieness.
Something you might want to do to get to the bottom of your OP’s concerns would be to do the “Who Posted?” trick on them and see if there’s some common denominator to the posters.
Since the world is all going to end in December anyway, perhaps some are harkening back to the good ol’ days of nostalgia. Or at least they think they were the good ol’ days. Or the zombies are just the advance team in the whole Mayan prophecy disaster that awaits us?
What is strange about these one-and-done zombiefiers is that apparently they spend most of their time online doing Google searches for this or that, logging onto any message board that comes up as a hit, posting their little resurrecting message, and then vanishing from that board forever while moving onto the next one.
And I thought I didn’t have a life.
Still doesn’t mean you do though…
Was your life cherry-flavored?
