I have a 2005 volvo s40. The keyfob will lock the doors but will not unlock them. I can unlock the doors with the valet key but that sets off the alarm. I have replaced the batteries in both fobs with no solution. So the problem must be something else. Any help?
Do you have the spare key that should have come with the car? Have you tried it?
If that doesn’t work, or you don’t have the spare, maybe try disconnecting the car’s battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting. That might reboot the computer and conceivably fix the problem. It’s unlikely but worth a try.
If neither of those work you’ll probably have to take it in for repair. You may have to go to a dealer for this.
I’d say the number one suspect is the Keyless Entry Module.
One thing to try in the meantime is to press the unlock button on the fob and then use the door key. It’s conceivable that the module will turn off the alarm even if it doesn’t unlock the doors.
