We were going to go to the gym tonight but the place closed at 1PM so the employees could actually get home with the weather.
I sprained my ankle quite badly today and therefore any exercise where I have to put weight on my left foot is Right Out. Which excludes treadmill, elliptical, stairclimber, yoga, and walking.
Ouch! I hope that you heal quickly there!
My sympathies on your sprained ankle Ginger. Maybe this is upper body workout week. My recollection from when I used to take Jazzercise classes is that your heart rate will increase faster if you incorporate big arm movements into the workout. Maybe you could devise some kind of seated arm swinging workout. Then you could write a best selling book and be rich and we could all say we knew you when.
Well, that’s one idea.
Hope you feel better soon Norinew. Kidney infections are no fun at all.
Thanks Tikki I am indeed feeling much better. I’m hanging out at 175 today which is just fine as I’m still paying for the excesses of last week.
I did my walk this morning. My hip hurts again. I really need new shoes.
velvetjones, a couple of days ago when it was warmer outside (like, in double digits) I took two walks. My hip hurt all the way through the second one. Once, a doctor told me that I have a wee touch of scoliosis, and as a result put most of my weight on one side. Do you think you might have something like that?
Not weight loss, per se, but weight loss related:
I had a chem panel run last week with absolutely perfect results. Results with reference range in italics

I was sort of surprised as I was really expecting to hear that I had, you know, frosting running through my veins or something. By the way, does this mean I’m getting old when I get excited about having good cholesterol?
When you get excited by good blood work, and the prospect of a trip to Costco, you’re almost ready for a walker!
WTG on the labs! I know I was pleased when I was able to give up my high blood pressure meds, and have better BP without them than I had with them before I lost weight!
Have you thought about producing and marketing an “Aerobic Hopping” video?
Feel better soon!
I’m doing much better, thanks. Hurts like a bitch if I step the wrong way, but I can walk without crutches, at least.
Yes, Sattua I think that may be part of the problem. I’ve noticed that if I do my lower back stretches prior and if I’m careful while I’m walking to maintain good posture and keep my lower abs tight it hurts much less. Maybe I should be seeing a chiropractor rather than the accupuncturist.
I didn’t get to walk today because of the rain and my weight is up a couple of pounds.
But I’ve been eating crap and really need to re-double my efforts. I’m having a hard time staying focused this week.
I think I’m going to Mapquest Los Angeles.
Well it is “Weigh-In Saturday” here for us in Amishland. It has been a week of unconventional exercise for us , especially because of the ice and snow, but we made it through. We missed two gym sessions but more than made up for it with snow shoveling Thursday, and disco dancing last night. . I was a bit worried when we weighed in but my doubts were unfounded. Jayjay lost 1.8 lbs and I lost 3.4 lbs!
Go us! Whatever we are doing is working. I have to learn that I need to relax a bit more and just keep putting in the work.
I didn’t weigh in this morning. I haven’t had the best of weeks, and finally decided that I was going to give myself a little bit of a break. I’ll be back on plan tomorrow.
Even though I didn’t weigh in, my cat did. Guess who’s joining me on the diet? The vet wants her to lose 5 pounds.
I flicked onto this thread expecting it to be full of smuggy-smuggertons losing oodles of weight. Actually, at first I found it a little depressing cos there was everyone doing so fabulously. But as I read further I found that to be pretty inspiring. So thankyou to everyone for posting the details of their exercise and weightloss. I’m now intending to join you.
The Los Angeles comment intrigued me. I find the whole diet and exercise thing incredibly tedious (too many numbers!) but I could definitely handle a world-tour. I figure it would be interesting to set a new city as my goal each week and equate miles to pounds. Once I reach that week’s goal/city I can then find out all about it.
So I’m going to try to journey from London to Tokyo via weightloss with one pound equalling 100 miles. First stop, Paris at just over 200 miles (2 lbs) away!
Wecome aboard zelie zelerton. Good luck.
I have found that having a place to post goals and progress, as well as share encouragement has really helped. I have to keep focused on the fact that I did not gain all this weight is a short time, but over years. I want it all gone now, and I know that’s unrealistic. So, seeing progress, and seeing others’ progress keeps me from “dropping the whole basket.”
The same methods don’t work for everybody, so you have to find what works and stick to it. This said by the guy who has stuck for a whole 6 weeks now. OK, I realize I am not the greatest spokesman, but I hope you know what I mean.
This weeks numbers:
280 / 260 / 175
Not me. I’m Smuggy J. Smuggerton.
Yeah, but you’re Canadian. We’re used to that from Canadians…
Hey, I gotta get a workout in anyway. Might as well get it in by running away from Gingy…
Nope. I was 296 when I started my diet on January 1. I’m now a little over 270.
Not even close. I started at 449 pounds. I’m currently (as of this morning) at 413.
Time to check back in. When we last saw our hero…
This morning, much to my surprise and amazement, I’d lost another pound. When I add that one to the others I’d lost since my last post, it’s another 4!
I am now only 2 pounds away from “Normal” on the BMI scale and only 6 away from my original goal for this round.
Now, judging from what other people have listed, I’m assuming the numbers they post indicate start weight / current weight / goal weight. Here’s mine…
208 / 156 / 150
On another note, the main issue I’ve always had is with my hips. And I do seem to be losing weight from ‘the old storage tanks’, but the truly amazing thing is to see that my hands, arms, neck, ankles, and colar have all lost a significant amount! I no longer have the jiggly arms, my bracelets need to be adjusted (slightly, but…) and my chins are gone.
The bad news? None of my ‘foundation’ (to use my Mom’s terms) garments fit anymore, but until I’m at the goal, I don’t want to buy more! Anyone want to come shopping in about a month?
Of course we need photographic evidence…
