2007 Weight Loss Club, July

LOL. Super will do just fine. Heck even “Hey You!” works every once in awhile…

I faced the scales this morning, and like jayjay, I really don’t want to talk about it.

I knew I had a bad week, but I was up 2.6 pounds. ARGH!!

We all have weeks like that. Trust me. But we move on and do what we need to do. Next week will be better. :).

I know… Pollyanna with the royal “we”…lol.

June was a very bad month for me. Even with reducing calories by another 400/day, my forced reduced activity level (due to my back injury), led to a month-long plateau.*

On the good side, my physical therapist gave me the go-ahead 2 weeks ago to start the core-strengthening exercises, and the last week I’ve started losing weight again. I’m hoping shortly to start working with someone who’s both a physical therapist and personal trainer, to strengthen my body and prevent another injury.

Also, my dad has been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes (both my parents now have it), so I have oodles of incentive to get down to a healthy weight.

Starting weight: 213
Current weight: 188
Goal weight: 150 (may be intermediate goal)

  • At least I didn’t gain!

I am in the same boat, although I haven’t faced the scales. With the picnics from the Forth and the wedding I was at yesterday, I really was not very disciplined.

So I guess those of us in the boat will have to row together and get back on track. I do have another event this week that I will likely be undisciplined at (an annual gathering at the Penn State Art’s fest. We always go then the old gang always meets at a specific bar. We drink beer, then go eat dinner.)

But after that I don’t see much in the way of temptation for the next few weeks.

Thanks for the support, guys. I just have to make sure I stay on track. Part of my problem right now is that I’m a stress eater, and I’m under a lot of stress at work. I do fine during the day (for the most part, anyway), but once I get home…look out!

Well, congratulations to all the people here, for either progressing or trying, because those efforts will pay off.

You have inspired me to give it another shot, and with the start of the Tour de France, I always feel energized. It’s all good.

What a roller coaster week it has been for my weight! Last Saturday, 171.8. Wednesday, 175. Today, 169.6! Hormones and water weight. What a wacky pair!

Eh, still trying. Got myself in trouble a bit in June, so I missed my end of month target, but I’m close to back on track now. At least I know now that when I have to go buy pants again (I refuse to buy new clothes until the old ones wear out), I can get them at least four inches smaller.

So I just went back and looked at my stats from a year ago, and I have managed to lose 25 pounds in a year, not the 15 I thought. So yay and stuff. I went back to look because I bought the shirt I’m wearing about a year ago when I was at my parents’ place in Canada, and the dumb thing actually fit me then. Now, not so much.

Sounds like you’re doing it the right way Ginger, a little bit at a time. Good luck with your continued success.

I wish I could blame hormones for my wacky scale fluctuations like you Tikki but I can’t. Yesterday I was 172.5 today I’m 175

I got my long walk in this morning with even a little (very little) jogging for good measure.

Gotta get back on track dang it.

I’m not saying you haven’t made any mistakes, but there is no way you gained 2 and 1/2 pounds of fat in one day. You would have had to have eaten more than 7,000 excess calories to do that. Whenever you see a jump like that overnight, most or all of it is fluid. Drink your water.

I went out of town for 2 weeks, living in a set of hotels/resorts, and even though I didn’t cook once and was eating out a lot, I still managed to maintain my weight. Of course, it helped that I was going out of my way to exercise as much as I could, but I still expected to put on a few pounds more than the “acceptable ceiling” I set for myself.

But I didn’t, so I’m starting off the month quite pleased.

My body is weird.
I told you guys that last week I GAINED a pound after busting my butt so I was up to 174.

I’ve been slacking on the food the past 2-3 days, especially yesterday when I went WAY over on points. It was also period time (sorry guys). This morning the scale says 172.5, WTH? I’ll take it!!! Maybe I did need to eat more who knows…

I wanna see the 160’s!!!

Thank you I’m sucking down a big bottle of water right now.

I know what you mean. I was just thinking that 174 the day before was the fluke and 172.5 was my “correct” weight. Now it looks like 174 is my number since I’ve seen three days, almost in a row, with that number. Nobody to blame but myself but I have to say, it’s depressing.

And this morning my alarm didn’t go off so I missed my walk. I did get in almost 20000 steps yesterday.

I’ll have to walk after work.

I had my one-year follow up for the PDA weight-control study at Johns Hopkins. Don’t have the results yet but I will post them when I’m through. She took measurements and body fat zapped me, and my weight. She also told me that as of six months ago, I was one of only five participants (there were 25) to have actually lost weight in the first six months. Jeez.

Whoot! Good for you Gingy!

You have run across the same thing that most of us have, at one time or another. At certain points, most of us have been surprised simply because our bodies need fuel to burn weight. Not eating is never a weight loss solution. It can actually compound the problem. Good for you!

I finished the couch to 5k program today! I think I will start One Hour Runner next, which conveniently starts with 3 weeks of 30 min runs 3x a week. I weighed myself after I got back from running and I was 3 pounds lighter than my weight at the end of last month. I know it’s sort of cheating but it made me feel better and I know that soon that will be my real weight.

That’s so cool Arien I started that Couch to 5K thing but running really makes my joints ache. I probably need to lose a bit more weight before I can really jog without pain.

Nice to be in the top 5 hey Ginger? You (and your butter tarts) are an inspiration to us all.

Meanwhile I’m back down to 171.5

Just need to stick to my walking schedule and my eating regime…oatmeal for breakfast with a piece of fruit, salad and protein for lunch. Mostly meat and vegetables for dinner. If I stick with that I do well.

I’ve been doing terrible this week. My weigh-in yesterday showed a gain of a couple pounds. I haven’t exercised since Sunday. I’ve been eating crap.

But the good news is that Wednesday, lorene told me that I look like I’ve lost a lot of weight. That was really nice to hear! Especially from someone who has faced the struggle and won.
