I’m fortunate to have found a great stylist, and at a Great Cuts, oddly enough. She’s the only person there who is in hot demand by just about everyone. I wonder how she’s take it if I asked her opinion, and told her to make me look hot.
Yep. You can’t sprint on one leg. At least that’s true for me.
Thanks! The gym will have to be reserved for Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday afternoon…when my husband has off and can watch the little guys for a bit. Luckily, my husband is on board with more exercise and is encouraging evening walks, too. He’s also going to be making an effort to get in better shape this Spring, so we can work together on that front. He’s one of those people who struggles to keep weight on. He’s just going to have to add his extra calories while he’s at work, because I just cannot have stuff like ice cream and cookies in the house, at least for now.
Reminds me of a married couple I met at work. The husband was a pretty underweight guy. The wife was seriously huge (she was there to get evaluated for bariatric surgery). They reported that they ate exactly the same things, in the same amounts. Assuming they weren’t misreporting, that’s a pretty interesting anecdote on metabolism and/or genetics!
I’ll also chime in here although it’s way too early in my diet/exercise program to be seeing any results. Hell I refuse to weigh myself for the first month.
Right now I’m around 250 for a 6’2 male. I’m looking to get back down to around 195-200. That’s where I was when I lost my thread of exercising. Which is a caution that I’ll give Valgard.
I started my first weight loss routine about…6 years ago I think it is now…anyway I started running and dieting. My runs got to be fairly decent…about what yours are now. I was running 5 miles a day at a 9 minute mile pace, and a long run of 10 or so on Sunday. Until I had about 3 months of not running. I had to travel for work, then vacation, then travel again all pretty much back to back. Once I stopped burning the insane amount of calories that I did when I was running, the weight came back remarkably fast. So just keep that in mind…you’re probably burning close to a thousand calories in your exercising. If something happens that you can’t do that for some reason it’s going to be hard to keep that weight down.
Right now I’ve just cut out all the crap and soda and munchies from my diet. I have a package of oatmeal for breakfast, an apple for mid-morning snack…lean cuisean meal for lunch, either a 100 calorie bag of popcorn or some pretzles for an afternoon snack, then a sensible dinner. I do have some baked tortilla chips and salsa for an evening snack but those are pretty low-cal. I’m also back to running/walking 4 days a week. Right now I’m barely able to s l o w l y run a mile and run/walk another mile, but I’ll get there.
Hey! You’re exactly my husband’s size. You’re not my husband, are you? :dubious: He’s not a member here (or is he? ;)), but my weight loss and exercise program over the past few months has inspired him to give weight loss a shot himself. He just started riding bike with me last week and claims his pants are already looser. I don’t know if he’s weighed himself yet. Anyway, welcome, Atrael and to all our other newcomers too.
Heck, that reminds me of me and my husband. We pretty much eat the same things and he eats much larger portions than me and yet he weighs in at about 162 (he’s 5’9") and I’m struggling to stay in the 160s for more than 5 minutes at a time. It’s damned unfair I tells you. Damned unfair.
That said, just because your husband is underweight C3 doesn’t mean that he should load up on junk food. Underweight doesn’t necessarily equal healthy. If he needs more calories in his day I’d steer him toward whole foods that are calorie dense. Nuts, avocados, meats, eggs, cheese or even protein bars. All of those are better choices than ice cream and cookies and all of those are things you can eat in moderation.
IMO ice cream and cookies, pack a huge wallop of sugary badness along with their calories. Not good for anyone, even the skinny ones.
Tell you what, send me a nude picture of yourself and I’ll let you know if you look like my wife.
Since I just told my wife that I renewed my SDMB membership last night, I’m pretty sure it’s not you.
That said, it’s nice to know that there are other guys out there about my size. It’s funny but what makes it easy for me to get to this weight is that I don’t look like I weigh this much. I know when I was talking to the guys around the office about losing weight, when I mentioned how much I actually do weigh they were surprised. So I hide it well.
Why is it that we only attract the naughty boys in the weight loss thread? I tell ya …
My husband doesn’t look like he weighs 250 either. His legs are still really thin, and he has no butt to speak of (the bastard; I always tell him I’ve got enough booty for the both of us). He carries all his weight in his belly. Some guys have a six-pack, my guy has the keg. He does look a little chubby in the face too, I guess. I, on the other hand, carry my weight pretty evenly, so my legs and arms have gotten a lot smaller, not just my tummy. Although being tall, nobody ever believes I weigh as much as I do either.
Well I hurt my hip about six months ago, haven’t done any running since then and I’m holding steady. Biking doesn’t hurt it, neither do my crunches and pushups and whatnot. I take my doctor’s advice (“If it hurts, stop”) quite seriously. I’m also quite good about what and how much I eat.
Yeah, if I was doing long runs multiple times a week I’d eat more but I am good about keeping things equalized.
I am jonesing for chocolate bad! But I’m in France and the chocolate bar in the mini-bar is 9 euros. For that much money it better make my eyes roll back in my head!
I guess I’ll be good. It is better for my diet and my wallet.
Try brushing your teeth. Maybe use some mouthwash too. When I first started dieting last fall, I found that having a minty-fresh mouth reduced my food cravings to nothing for a couple of hours. That’s the one thing that really started me on the road to weight loss. Nearly 60 pounds later, I still brush my teeth whenever I want more goodies than I need.
Took them two and a half years ago when they were 4 and 2. they will be 6 and 5 years old (and taller) so will probably enjoy it more. We are booked into Disney accomodation but also have a car so will hit Busch gardens and may take a few days in the south (nothing says you have to stay in Orlando! Last time we went to a motel in Homestead and did the Keys and Miami from there; may return!
Ottawa and Toronto, and visiting Cornwall after the conference for the historic town thingee. Last conference in 2003 was in Calgary and I really enjoyed that!
I just put on a size 12 skirt. And zipped it up. And it looked sort of lumpy (I AM sort of lumpy due to extra skin), but it fit me. I’ll wear it when it gets cooler since it’s too damned hot in MD summers to wear this sort of fabric.
Wow, Ginger you’re half the size you were…literally. That’s awesome!
Pjen If you do manage to get down south again you must check out Monkey Jungle (assuming you haven’t already) a way cool habitat for endangered species where the monkeys roam free and the people are in cages as they walk through the compound. Your kids will really love it. It’s in Miami very near Homestead. (I can’t seem to get the web site to come up right now…may be my connection here at work has it blocked)
And while you’re in Orlando don’t forget to visit Universal Studios and their assorted theme parks. Islands of Adventure is especially popular with the kids. I kind of like the Universal theme parks better than Disney but that’s just me.
Tikki That toothbrushing trick works for me too. The plus side of that is better dental health.
Monkey jungle looks good and we will try to get there. We will be getting Universal passes so plan to do non Disney as well. We are there for over two weeks so hope to fit it all in.
We then fly back via Toronto (Saving several hundred dollars as it is English term break and the prices leap up for Orlando flights) and plan to go to Niagara and stay in one of the hotels overlooking the falls; which reminds me, must book it soon.
OK, I just worked out for the first time in 2 weeks. Two weeks ago I had a bad head and chest cold and could not work out and this week I was in France.
I am up to 15 minutes climbing stairs. My lungs really feel it and I suspect my legs will complain tomorrow. We’ll see.
