but almost as touching was his use of “Yes we can,” repurposed from a campaign slogan into something broader - and maybe for him, that’s what it meant all along.

It was adapted from the speech he gave when he lost the New Hampshire primary, which is the speech that was turned into the “Yes we can song”.

Yeah… I was sitting around quietly shitting myself when it was still 8-3 McCain and it looked like Indiana and Florida were going Republican, and then I went out for a cigarette, and came back and heard the CNN “Called State!” jingle about eight times in succession… and suddenly it was like 70-30.

True. I kept saying Florida wasn’t relevant, but with Virginia looking tight and most of the Northeast outstanding it looked surprisingly tense for Obama at the beginning.

I know the absentee ballots haven’t been counted yet, but has the early voting results been calculated in this? If not, it could start swinging. It may start when the absentees are tallied.

Wow, moroccans are celebrating in the streets tonight in Casablanca. I am hearing musical honking, trucks packed dangeously full of people holding the U.S flag and singing about Obama!

This has never, ever happened before. Not for any foreign leader in the history of the country.

There are about 40,000 provisional ballots to be evaluated and counted in NC. The estimate is that 65% of them will be valid, and that they will increase Obama’s lead.

I cannot friggin believe we may really be blue. Last week, I tried to convince my husband we were turning vaguely mauve and he scoffed at me.

And I just have to say again, don’t let the door hit ya, Elizabeth Dole! I like to think my tiny contribution of Godless Money™ helped take her down.

Pretty special. I think the most amazing thing was the sights of people of every type taking to the streets to celebrate; no violence or anything like a championship celebration mob, just joy and love. Unfortunately it seems as though not all can appreciate the magnatude of the moment, but perhaps they’ll come along eventually. I hope. Also more than anything, whatever of his policies and what ever he can or cannot “get done”, what it means for the next generation really gets me. Brendan and Alyssa and all the other kids that can’t quite grasp the situation; all the anxiety felt leading up to yesterday, the dark, all too common thought of “a ____ could never be President, not in my life time”; they will never have to know that feeling or have those negative thoughts.
