From my experience with gameknot, even if you have a 3-day limit it’s quite likely that there will be a sudden burst of enthusiasm when you’re both online - and if you’re not, there’s no possibility of real-time play anyway. Don’t forget that some of us are five or more time zones apart.
You can put me down under “What’s an Elo?”
This is pretty much my experience as well. When I used to play it usually only took a few weeks to play a game. As I said before, I can’t do live games, at least not right now with a 2 and 4 year old and a full time job.
OK, so I’ve made the wall chart. It’s mostly arbitrary from the middle to the bottom. I’m going to try to get the colors right, but I’m doing this by hand, so if I screw up the colors…sorry.
Here be the rules:
2days/move. Try to coordinate a time to get with your opponent and knock out maybe 5 or 6 moves at a time.
Treat it like a 1day/move game. I don’t want to set the computer to that, though, because if you make a move at 5:00 and I move at 5:05, you’d better hope you don’t get caught in traffic the next day and get home at 5:06, because then you’ve lost on time.
When the game ends, post the result and the final move list in this thread.
The chart:
Maser
Chessic
Malac
GIGO
Edward
Hamlet
Ivan
Oredigger
Garygnu
Peeker
Cort
Autolycus
MindW
fubbleskag
First Round Pairings:
White v Black
Maser v Ore
Gary v Chessic
Malac v Peek
Cort v GIGO
Edward v Auto
MindW v Hamlet
Ivan v fubble
so what’s the scoop? do we pm each other our moves and fucking hope that i don’t screw it up. or is there a virtual board where we get to see this stuff.
and malac i have no clue on who you be.
i typically play poker so is talking smack allowed?
can i cheat?
i’m thinking i let chessmaster 2099 run the game for me. of course, after the first couple of moves you will definitely not buy the program unless your toddlers need a dose of wootwoot.
I signed up on Gameknot as mindwanderer, if we’re going to use that system.
You guys can take your pick of game method. I suggest chess.com but others are playing on gameknot. So just go with whatever your opponent agrees to. Again, it’s 1d/move but if using the websites, set it to 2d/move so no one loses if they don’t get to the computer 5 minutes too late.
ETA: Malac is Malacandra.
Sure, smack talk all you want.
No, you can’t cheat. I suppose there’s no way around using an analysis board, so go ahead and use it if you want. But no engines!
uh, malacadra, huh. i offer a tie.
k’ we are good to go to the second round. 1/2 - 1/2.
woot woot.
the horsies do the little l thingie, right?
Apparently I have an account at Chess.com as “bedgyro”
ok. i am on chess.com with my usual handle. that chicken liver malacandra won’t even show up to do battle.
am i white or not white?
or can i check several different ethnicities, kind of like the census.
I have just made an account over at chess.com so I’m at gameknot as well. I’m under edwardthehead for both. I also sent Auto a PM. But how did I get rated so high? I’m not that good.
Players listed first in the pairing get White.
Sheesh. Rookies.
You, sir, are challenged.
i told you i stink but i am trying. gd this looks to be all the fun as ann bolyn’s beheading.
blind pigs. blind pigs. gotta keep up with that mantra.
as usual, my only goal here is to outlast you, peek
oh noes. FUB is in the room.
You’ll do very well as long as you carry on posting while I’m sound asleep. But now I’ve rubbed the grit from my eyes, let me mosey on over…
Registered as Gil-Gandel as there was already a Malacandra. Have at you, cully.
ok i found you and challenged you to a game. but it looks like you are black and that’s not right.
i am peekercpa over there as well.
sorry i am kind of new to this.
