I wonder who he expects to purchase his portion of the Steelers…
After reading this:
I imagine should the deal go through, he’d become 10,000 percent a Browns fan or something like that.
I hope to God the deal goes through. Randy Learner made a staggeringly good choice in who his father would be but but it seems like that was the limits of his good decision making ability. I don’t think he’s a bad person just an aloof, disinterested and rather incompetent one. Take the money and run Randy.
It will be interesting to see how much of the front office survives the season. I’m assuming that with former Eagles President Joe Banner being part of (or playing some role) in the new ownership group Mike Holmgren’s days could very well be numbered. I suspect that Pat Shurmur’s seat just got a lot hotter, this is his make or break year coaching the Browns. Tom Heckert’s Philadelphia connections might be valuable, depending on how Joe Banner feels about him.
As I recall the lease the team signed in exchange for public financing of the new stadium does not expire until 2029 and was written in a way to make it very hard and very expensive for the team to relocate prior to expiration. It’s also been reported that keeping the team in Cleveland will be a condition of the sale. So I wont have to see my team leave town twice (sorry LA).
I don’t know anything about the (potential) new owner other than what’s being reported. But the law of averages tells me it’s exceedingly unlikely that he can do worse than Randy (never) Learner.
Can’t remember where I read it, but it sounded like Heckert and Banner have some history and it doesn’t spell well for Heckert. Which pisses me off. The rest of the staff I don’t really care about, but Heckert is doing good work.
One point in Haslam’s favor: he runs a real business that earns real profits, not some financial business with impressive paper profits that can go south.
Browns sold for over $1b to Jimmy Haslet.
Not sure how I feel. Lerner wasn’t good for anything, but he seemed to hand the franchise off to Holmgren and take a hands off approach, which is probably the best thing for an owner to do.
I question whether this coaching staff can ever be any good, but it’s just not practical to clear house in August, so I’m hoping they leave everything intact for this year.
Boy, I sure can’t wait for us to start from scratch AGAIN.
Wow. I thought I had read somewhere that this deal wasn’t going to happen?
Andy Reid’s son found dead at training camp.
What a terrible tragedy. I hate the Eagles, and I’m glad the Cardinals beat them in the 2009 NFC Championship. But, I know that this has a been such a struggle for Andy Reid over the years. Hopefully, Andy will be able to take as much time away from the team as necessary to deal with this horrible loss.
Is the hall of fame game on TV anywhere? Not seeing it.
The NFL Network.
Kevin Kolb left the game after getting hit pretty hard, he might be injured.
Weeden was officially named Browns starters today, which I thought was obvious, but reading various fantasy football draft guides it seemed widely assumed that Colt would start the first half of the season.
I guess the new owner was impressed, then.
Trent Harrison is off to see a specialist about his knee and Joe Haden reportedly fails a drug test. Is the new Browns team facility built on an old Native American cemetery or something?
“Trent Harrison” is amazing. Well played. And it looks like he’s going tohave surgery on his knee soon.
Haden’s failed drug test was apparently adderall to keep him awake longer, FWIW, which seems fairly minor in the grand scheme of things.
Richardson’s knee apparently is just getting a clean up, nothing too dire.
The real losses are Gocong with an achilles injury - the linebacking corps was already very thin without him. And of course Phil Taylor tore his pec earlier in the offseason.
Screw the players, does Dr. James Andrews ever have an off season?
Chad Johnson arrested for domestic abuse. Wonder if he’s done now with Miami?
Some random thoughts on the offseason and the first week of preseason games:
Anyone who thinks pre-season stats really matters: Curtis Painter threw for 3 TD’s and Aaron Rodgers had a 0.0 Quarterback rating.
The Packers are in mid-season form. If it’s mid-season of baseball that is. And injuries are already kicking their asses.
Andrew Luck is the Truth.
Although I’ve always liked, and now live in, St. Louis, this year I hope they go 0-16 and Jeff Fisher gets hit on the sidelines, tears his ACL/MCL/ and IRA’s, and gets fired right away. I hate that guy.
I love preseason hubris, where every team has improved immensely and will be in the running for the playoffs. I’m looking at you Redskins, Bucs, Bears, and Panthers.
The talent and motivation on the Eagles scares me. But they won’t win a Super Bowl with Vick as their QB.
The Detroit Lions, New York Jets, and Chicago Cutlers should be really fun to watch this year. Their off the field problems should be more entertaining than the games. Whether it is the number of arrests, having two bad QB’s battling for the starting job and a fat nutjob as a coach, or a “who can pout more” battle of important players, it should be fun.
I’m glad I’m not a fan of the Browns, Jaguars, or the Cardinals.
These thoughts are like the preseason week one, completely worthless.
