2012 Summer Olympics: What are you watching? [spoilers likely]

That was an exciting finish!

This approach seems guaranteed to leave empty seats at many events. Is it really completely impractical to have at least a couple separate admissions through the day?

I think that there are separate sessions in the venues.

I believe S. Korea’s women’s team is the only team to ever win team gold since the sport became an olympic sport.

We’re not watching a damn thing, since we don’t have TV service and NBC apparently won’t even let you watch clips online let alone a whole event without authenticating with TV provider credentials.

We don’t watch broadcast TV. We don’t have a premium TV subscription. We aren’t interested in temporarily pretending to want to do either of those things. We’re still interested in watching the Olympics in exchange for watching some ads, so screw you too, NBC. :stuck_out_tongue:

Women’s skeet. Kim Rhode just set a couple of records by winning. She has medaled in 5 straight Olympics, and she trains in my hometown. Redlands Trap & Skeet has just announced that they are renaming the place after her.

This:

Then this:

= masses of content - inc. all Olympic events, plus no advertising. Ever.

Mens hockey. Australia v. South Africa. 13 min to go with Aust. ahead 5 - 0. Even with 1 man off the field for much of the 2nd half Australia never looked in trouble.

As far as TV here is concerned the Olympics are 75% swimming, 20% track & field and a few other unimportant sports (unless we win a gold). If Australia isn’t involved then the match may as well be taking place on an alternative plane of existance.

The men’s gymnastic team event today was amazingly tense and exciting. Also:

Get. The. Fuck. In! Team GB men first medal in team gymnastics for 100 years

Diving, gymnastics, and equestrian. I’ve had a hard time finding out when equestrian events will be broadcast. Today, I found a schedule on Yahoo, and after selecting various events and icons, discovered the times for the events and if they’re live. I’ve missed several equestrian events that I wanted to see, and now have my DVR set up to record the last few events (London time). I haven’t seen much of the gymnastics either and I would have loved to see Gabby Douglas in her winning events. Maybe it’s just me, but I think NBC could do a better job of informing us about the scheduling (dates, times and time zone) and whether the event is broadcast live or delayed tape.

Well that sucked. I know I said I was going to watch judo and I set up my Tivo to record it.(And double checked with that web site above to make sure I actually had the right date and time. Actually it was part of a 9 hr block of olympics but I’ve got the space.) Anyway total amount of judo in those 9 hrs? About 12 seconds. (Yes it was basically the last 12 seconds of Kayla’s match, they couldn’t even be bothered to show the whole thing.)

BTW I’d watch it on the official web site for that network but after that I’d rather just watch the pirated version on youtube. (You know, since if I watch the official one they’d probably put 20 minutes of commercials for every 5 seconds of actual judo competition.)
