2012 World Series of Poker

Ya know, there’s something about Antonio Esfandiari that rubs me the wrong way, or at least used to. I used to think he was a huge douchebag and still kind of do, but compared to a ton of other high profile players, he’s seemingly very well grounded, intelligent, classy and looks like one of the few players I’d want to hang out with in person.

Okay, if I’m going to spending several weeks visiting Poker News on a daily basis, I have to ask this: Is there a way to block the video and twitter feed that appear on the right of tournament reporting? Right below the “event list” and “tournament” buttons.

I get the twitter feed but the video is not auto-playing. But I don’t know what to tell other than my browser is google chrome.

thank God.

Well I recently installed the No Scipt plug-in for Firefox and that blocks the video from showing up, sorta. The box is still there, but no video shows up in the box. Twitter feed still there though.

One of my friends made the money for the $3,000 Heads Up PLO/NLHE tournament. It’s finished for the night, they’ll be finishing things up tomorrow.

Worth Noting in the Pokernews blog:

[QUOTE=PokerNewsBlog]
Last year, this event saw 765 runners. The end of level 4 was the deadline for players to late register, and the final number on the big clock is 639, a drop in attendance of 16%.
This is a trend that unfortunately has been seen in most of the events so far. Last year, 3,157 players played in the first $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em event, where as the opening event this year saw just 2101 entrants. It should be noted that the first $1,500 event last year was the 18th event rather then the first event, but it still is an alarming site. Attendance was also down in the $500 Casino Employees event, with a drop from 850 last year to just 732 this year.
It should also be noted that the $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better actually saw a slight increase in entrants, with 622 this year as compared to 606 last year. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how the numbers look for the rest of the series.

Are we spoilering? I’d rather not, but will defer. In the meantime, for event #2

6 left at the table, including Vanessa Selbst, who doesn’t have a lot of fans. I gotta say though, if you look up her hand with Hanks at the end of the last round, she has a lot of guts.

Kid Poker has reached the final table of the $1500 pot limit Hold’m event. 6th place (out of 9) and his chip stack is about 18x BB. Chip leader has about 66x BB

Here is a interesting column on the first week of the WSoP.

Interesting that the highest ranked poker pros have really done nothing so far. (Ivey, Duhamel, Grospelier, Mercier). One total cash (~$2900) in $80,000 worth of buy-ins plus a mini scandal in a ‘re-buy’ tournament.

Chris (Jesus) Ferguson, Howard Lederer, and Erick Lindgren have been absent.

Most people know that Jesus and Howard were heavily involved in the Full Tilt Scandal and I don’t think either played an event last year either.

[speculation]There could be a legal reason why they are not playing.[/speculation]

Lindgren? Not sure why he has not played yet.

Lindgren owes a ton of people money and is reportedly “cash-poor,” so that might explain his absence.

I’ll be playing in a few events, but not for a couple of weeks.

Wait until the more “serious” tournaments begin for the high profile players to start flexing their muscles. Poker, even in tournament form, is still a long-term game and the high profile players will more than likely come out ahead by the end of the tournament. Phil Ivey especially once we get to the main event. He seems to do very well in the main event in the last few years.

I wonder how many people will have won ME qualifying events, only to discover when they get to Vegas, “Never mind what the age limit was where you played - here, it’s 21, and we’re sticking to it”?

None, if they have any gray matter.

I don’t know how many satellites (if any) they outside the USA but if they are at Brick and Mortar casino, the rules should be explicit.

Phil Ivey starting to kick some ass in event 15. As of right now, 5th in chips with 56 players left. Chad Brown, the ESPN announcer guy is in this event too, though not with as many chips as Ivey.

Chip leader of the whole tournament with only 32 players left. Go Ivey!

EDIT: And by “Chad Brown” I meant Norman Chad.

HAHA! “Chad Brown” is an actor turned player.

Yeah I know. That damn Poker News blurb about them both being in a hand together screwed me all up.

How much of an asshole does it make me to enjoy hearing about Phil Hellmuth getting needled and heckled?

I mean, as a human being with feelings and emotions, he doesn’t deserve the additional mental anguish of someone talking a bunch of shit to him while he’s trying to play poker.

But as a monumental douchebag and attention whore, I think he absolutely deserves all the shit talking people can serve up to him. Especially if they’re the chip leader of the tournament.

Thoughts?

Dang CIB, I was hoping for a you tube video has I already read that!

Someone must have documented it!

CIB-the reason I laughed is because because you mentioned an actual poker figure in the process of confusing Norman Chad.

Poker news Weekly summary.

They got 42 out of 48 available spots filled for the $1,000,000 buy in the “One Drop” tournament. The confirmed contestants do not include Ben Lamb and Jean Robert Bellande who have announced that they intend on playing.

Jean Robert? In a million dollar buy in?
